First mentioned in the article "Little Horrors"[1], this individual is a Chi-Folken version of Strahd von Zarovich. The Chi-Folken Strahd was created out of the Mists at the same time as the domain of Madego. In contrast to his template, he is the Demilord of Barovia province.
Pre-740 BC
Before 740 BC's Night of Music, it is safe to assume that Strahd acted in lockstep with his counterpart in the Core, mindlessly copying his every action. This came to an end when Lupta danced upon the sands of G'Henna province and the magic of the Spirits rose. Strahd played powerful music upon the organ while his vampire brides danced under the symbol of Rex Sitis. In the aftermath of the Night of Music, Strahd was his own being for the very first time, free to chart his own course.
Post-Grand Conjunction
Freedom has brought Strahd opportunities, but also great confusion. The obsessive lust of his template makes zero sense to a Chi-Folken's way of thinking. Strahd's own damnation strikes him as a sequence of inexplicably insane and irrational events.
The Count has other matters to keep him busy, though. As an Ewigkind-strain vampire, Strahd has tightened security and secrecy, and has even been forced to imprison or destroy some of his less subtle minions. If only one of his subjects ever suspected his true nature, even the cowed Barovians would rise up against him in disgust, and he would either be destroyed or wind up alone in an abandoned province.
Strahd's old enemy Azalin is establishing a codex of law for the whole Unholy Empire of Madego, and Strahd is obliged to engage in high-level diplomacy to ensure Barovia's standing in the emerging world order. He might prefer to keep Barovia isolated, but that could end with all the other provinces united against Barovia. The overthrow of Falkovnia province has served as a pointed lesson in this regard.
Spirits
As a fairly high-level Dwimmerlaerer, Strahd can channel many of the Spirits. Although he has received the favour of Rex Sitis during the Night of Music, he has a marked preference for Grigria, Spirit of desire.
As per the 7th level of the Dwimmerlaerer prestige class's feature Walk with me, Strahd is accompanied by a Medium-sized mist elemental at all times. As Strahd lacks a shadow in which the entity could hide, it instead lurks near him in the form of a constant ground mist.
