Salome Merryweather, née Smythe, is the daughter of Alois Smythe, the wife of Honored Brother Errol Merryweather of the Fraternity of Shadows, and the mother of Dolor Merryweather, Bertrand Merryweather, and daughter Serenity Merryweather. She is the sister of Michael Smythe and the aunt of Aleister Smythe.

In her youth, Salome wanted very much to join the Fraternity of Shadows under her own power, as her father and brother had done. This suggests that she is an arcane spellcaster of some sort, and most likely a Specialist Wizard. Much to her frustration, she was unable to persuade the Fathers of the Fraternity to accept her application. She "settled" for marrying an established member of the Fraternity, bearing his children, and pushing her sons to join as well. It has not been stated outright how she reacted to her daughter Serenity's slipping into madness and death after giving birth. Given she fully inherited her father's obsession with the Fraternity of Shadows, it is not impossible that she considered the fate of her own daughter as unimportant, given that Serenity could never hope to join the Fraternity.

  • Although she was always more in sync with her younger son Bertrand, Salome was initially elated that her oldest son, Dolor, had been given a special assignment from the Fathers of the Fraternity. Her happiness soon turned to rage when Dolor refused to inform her as to the nature of his assignment and left the Core, taking her grandchildren by Serenity (and unknown to her, Bertrand as well) instead of leaving them to her to raise. In Dolor's absence - and given that he has not contacted anyone in the family since his departure - she has pinned all of her hopes on Bertrand, and continues to encourage and approve of his worst excesses in seeking advancement through the ranks.
