Errol Merryweather

Errol Merryweather is a member of the Fraternity of Shadows, and the husband of Salome Merryweather-Smythe. By Salome, he is the son-in-law of Alois Smythe, the brother-in-law of Michael Smythe; the father of Dolor Merryweather, Bertrand Merryweather and Serenity Merryweather, and the uncle of Aleister Smythe. By Bertrand's rape of Serenity, he is the grandfather of infant twins Pierce and Thérèse, who have departed the Core in the care of his eldest son Dolor.

• Although Errol was quite as keen as his wife to see his sons enter the Fraternity of Shadows, he has slowly become aware that his wife and younger son Bertrand are far more obsessed with the family's standing therein than he ever was, and far more ruthless in securing advancement; he no longer feels quite safe in their company. Even though Errol is not a good person by any account, he was appalled by Serenity's unplanned pregnancy and deeply saddened by the disintegration of her sanity and subsequent death. He was further distraught when his oldest son took Serenity's twin children and departed the Core without so much as leaving a forwarding address where he might be reached.
