Puncheron is a jester and is the Darklord of the pocket domain of Risibilos. He sits at the right hand of King Doerdon and speaks exclusively for him.
Background
King Doerdon, a native of Oerth, was an incredibly humorless man who never "got the joke". For the life of him, he could never figure out why any joke or humorous story or anecdote was funny. Doerdon went so far as to have a festival of laughter, inviting the most well-known bards and jesters across the land to attend, but even then he found no humor. He soon became the butt of his subjects' jokes, something he did not appreciate. In retaliation, he banned laughing under the pain of death. The king would personally walk the streets with an magical staff imbued with a weird spell, slaying anyone so much as cracking a smirk. It should come as no surprise that one morning, the King found himself and his tiny nation in Ravenloft.[1]
The other thing he discovered that morning was an annoying jester sitting right next to him on his bed. He attempted to rid himself of Puncheron by even trying to kill him, but this was not possible, with the jester informing him that he was but a shadow of Doerdon himself and would be with him for the rest of his life. Puncheron also told the worst jokes ever heard, which caused the King to bust out in painful laughter. The king had to keep a cadre of magic-users around him at all times to dispel the effect of the laughter.[1]
Abilities
Puncheron was by no means a fighter, but his jokes were so bad that they could slay a man -- literally.[2] The only way to kill Puncheron was by either solving his final riddle, or killing the evil King Doerdon. Slaying him will cause the castle to disappear, and the village (along with the victors) transported back to Oerth.[1]
