Planetouched

Planetouched is a term used amongst Dungeons & Dragons materials and fans to refer to individuals whose race combines a traditional mortal race (human, demihuman, etc) with the lineage of a being native to a plane other than the Prime Material. In fact, it is more often used for the distant (2nd generation or later) hybrids than for the direct hybrids of Half-Celestial, Half-Fiend and Half-Elemental, although strictly speaking it covers both. It is uncertain if Half-Fey or their descendants would be considered planetouched, as they are not formally associated with an alternative plane in the Great Wheel cosmology, but are in the World Axis cosmology.

Due to the planar isolation of the Demiplane of Dread, there are no native enclaves of planetouched, though a Dungeon Master may consider the existence of tieflings due to the presence of a small number of fiends in the demiplane. Deathtouched, was similarly non-canonical, would ironically be more likely.

Celestial Planetouched

The foundation of Celestial Planetouched is the Half-Celestial, the direct offspring of a mortal and a being native to the Upper Planes. The descendants of these beings are called Aasimars.

The Forgotten Realms are home to a specific Aasimar species called the Celadrin, which descend from the union of elves and eladrin of the Firre caste.

Fiendish Planetouched

The foundation of Fiendish Planetouched is the Half-Fiend, the direct offspring of a mortal and a being native to the Lower Planes. The descendants of these beings are called Tieflings.

The Forgotten Realms are home to a wide variety of tiefling subspecies; the elf-born Fey'ri, the orc-born Tanarukk, the minotaur-born Baphitaur, and the Whorgest, who descend from the specific union of goblins and a fiendish race of wolves known as barghests.

Elemental Planetouched

The foundation of Elemental Planetouched is the Half-Elemental, the direct offspring of a mortal and a being native to the Elemental Planes. The descendants of these beings are called Genasi.

The Forgotten Realms is home to two specific Genasi species called the D'hin'ni, the product of interbreeding between djinn (genies of Air) and halflings, and the Azerbloods, children of dwarves and azers (dwarf-like fire elementals).

The concept of genasi born to the corruptive influence of Ravenloft's Dread Elementals is netbook canon, having been explored in the article Grave, Mist, and Pyre in Quoth the Raven Issue 07.
