Meretus is the deceased brother of the Kargat agent Ermenus. Ermenus slew Meretus upon official orders without even asking why, but the guilt Ermenus feels is the last vestige of human morality he has. The mention of Meretus' name triggers in Ermenus a lycanthrope-like transformation into a wolf.
