Katrina Von Brandthofen

Katrina Von Brandthofen is a niece to Dr. Victor Mordenheim, the daughter of his wife's twin sister. She is a diviner by class.

Background

Katrina's family were one of the lucky few that actually escaped the Demiplane of Dread, however she willingly returned by unknown means to locate her aunt, Elise. She has heard terrible rumors about her uncle, and feared for her aunt's safety. She was abducted by Dr. Mordenheim for use in a terrible experiment to revive his wife, but was presumably saved by a group of adventurers.

Katrina was selected for additional attention as part of the "Bait This Hook!" project on the FoS board. The following updates were proposed:

During an attempt to transfer Elise's soul into Katrina's body, Katrina suffered a minor Madness effect (Denial) from mental contact with Elise. This led to her ignoring Elise's plight and wanting to go back to her homeworld. By the time it wore off, Katrina was already in Dementlieu, and she berated herself for her foolishness at not striking out at Dr. Mordenheim.

Katrina has redoubled her efforts against Mordenheim since that day, seeking the Societe de Legerdemain and the Van Richten Society to establish a stronger network and avail herself of the scholarship on flesh golems. More recently, she has sought out mesmerists who could recover her memories of Schloss Mordenheim, hoping to find details that could be used against her uncle. Recently, the transcripts of her hypnosis sessions were stolen by an agent of the Brain.

Tragically, Katrina has developed an obsession that mirrors her uncle's: her mental contact with her aunt drives Katrina to grant Elise's wishes for final death. Of course, this is not possible within the limits of Mordenheim's curse. Unless the doctor and Adam have been destroyed, Katrina's attempts to slay Elise will only increase her agony.

Katrina is a member of the Veiled Palm, and as such, she makes her divination talents available to good-hearted people, and helps protect them from fakes.
