In Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, Helene Maurgen is a possible adventure hook that leads into the module. She asks the player characters to find her missing (unknown to her, deceased, [[murdered by Varikov the Trapper) husband Jeref Maurgen. If they player characters discover he is dead, Helene wants the return of their wedding ring. Jeref was last seen in Barovia three months prior to the start of the adventure. His remains are located in Area 72[1]
