Harriet Hickling is the head of the Colonial Merchant Trading Company in Sri Raji. She may be an old woman, but she is not feeble in mind or body. Her nickname, "Hairpin Hattie", derives from the long iron pins which hold her hair in place. When necessary, these pins also serve as weapons.[1]
Back in Paridon, Hickling belonged to the Celebrants of Humanity. The discipline which she learned there has given her excellent health, combat abilities, and resistance to the mind-reading abilities of the doppelgangers of her native land.[1]
Since coming to Sri Raji, Hickling has become fascinated with the ascetic tradition. She has even taken a man named Utpal Datta as her guru, although there is much she keeps hidden from him, including her own monk abilities.[1]
