Daniel Greensmith is a minor character from Heaven's Bones. He was a slave who worked on the Riverbend plantation, and was owned by Dr. Alistair Weldon. During Sherman's March, Greensmith was one of the slaves who set fire to the plantation. This fire ultimately killed Fanny Weldon, leaving Greensmith with significant guilt over the death of an innocent. Twenty years following Sherman's March, Greensmith encountered Fanny's ghost and told her of the time that elapsed since her death. In 1882, he found Greensmith discovered Fanny's lost bones and buried them, laying her to rest. A year later Greensmith died of disease, leaving what he owned to his son.[1]
