Paka are evil feline humanoids who can disguise themselves as humans. They share a grudge against all humans for a forgotten reason. To this end, paka frequently take levels in the ranger class, where humans are always their favored enemy. Such rangers often gain a crew of wereleopard followers.[1]
Fitting their nature, Paka have the supernatural ability to command cats and other felines. Conversely, dogs and werewolves hold special antipathy towards the paka and are put off by their mere presence.[2] Perhaps due to some mutual enmity to humans from long past, ancient transgression, paka will sometimes be encountered in the service of annis hags. Paka are the only minions annis hags seem to take not on the basis of toughness and brute strength alone. Though highly vengeful against humans, it is not unknown for them to appreciate and repay acts of kindness and mercy shown to them[3]
Paka can be found in the following domains: Falkovnia[4], Invidia[5], Richemulot[6], Tepest[7], and the Shadow Rift[8].
Languages
In addition to speaking several domain languages, paka have their own language, Aumes[9]
Gods
Paka venerate the Cat Lord. He grants access to the spell domains of Chaos, Evil, and Trickery.[10]
Chronology
Centuries ago Persarval Hiregaard seizes the Cat’s Paw (a minor artifact) from cat cultists who had themselves acquired it following its loss by the Paka.[11]
720-743 Yorgi Hiregaard discovers the Cat's Paw in the secret compartment of a wardrobe and makes use of it during his youthful adventures until attacked by Paka. [The youthful adventures can begin anywhere between 720 and 738 depending on when Yorgi is deemed to have been born][11]
754 Paka, and not for the first time, attempt to steal the Cat’s Paw from Castle Faerhaven in the days immediately following its use. Sir Tristen Hiregaard captures and questions one, but learns nothing, and his conditional offer to surrender the item goes unanswered.[11]
