The Marshfolk inhabit the Great Marsh east of Phiraz in Pharazia. Belonging to neither the cities nor the sands, they are a people apart from most other Pharazians.[1][2]
Some marshfolk raise crops, including barley, wheat, millet, and rice. Others herd water buffalo.[2] However, they live primarily upon their fishing.[1]
The marshfolk have a long history of being accomplished smugglers. Since the Mists arose around the Bay of Phiraz, there are far fewer goods available to smuggle into Phiraz, but still the marshfolk have been known to help smuggle people out of that city. In particular, they once helped Sheikh Allahn el Rashaan hide from Diamabel.[2]
Living in the Great Marsh as they do, the marshfolk are surrounded by diseases such as malaria. Nonetheless, they are a hardy and indomitable people.[1][2]
