The Caretaker was created as a 2nd Edition druid equivalent for the Land of Mists. Besides being a character class, the Society of the Caretakers represents a secret society that hides its druidic practices from darklords and the other evils of the Demiplane of Dread. Rather than a global hierarchical institution, the Society is broken down into domain specific, independent cells. These cells are established on a per-domain basis. Moreover, a caretaker can only function at full strength to the domain he is attuned to.[1]
The Caretakers have several branches in the Core. They have a branch in Darkon. They formerly had a branch in Tepest, but all the members (save for Meltos) were slain by the Three Hags of Tepest. [2]
