Located on the outskirts of Mortigny in Richemulot, the Baynesbrook Home for the Aged is a retirement home that offers people a socially acceptable venue to divest themselves of elders who are no longer capable of contributing meaningfully to the family, yet are still too healthy to die. The Home offers round-the-clock medical care in the form of on-site priests, food cooked by professional chefs to balance physical requirements with flavour, and will even offer internment services for those residents who finally shuffle off this mortal coil -- all for a token annual sum. The Home has a sterling reputation, and there is currently a waiting list for new residents; the manager is considering expanding his operation.

Tiers

Residents of the Home are divided in short-term residents, long-term residents, and permanent residents.

Short-term

Short-term residents are elders who do not belong to one of the other two categories. These are people who have lived their lives, and are either not welcome with their younger relatives or need constant medical oversight to remain comfortable in their golden years. They inhabit the lowest quality of rooms, but these are still incredibly luxurious to the average commoner. These residents can receive visitors on weekdays at all hours.

Long-term

Long-term residents are retired members of the Renier family. The manager has an ongoing deal with Jacqueline Renier that her family should not 'inconvenience' the Baynesbrook Home for the Aged. In addition to the Home paying the family an annual bribe, it reserves suites of opulent luxury for any Renier who feels the need to take a step back due to age - back and away from their younger relatives, who might murder them as soon as they perceive weakness. Long-term residents can achieve any kind of delight they can pay for, although the manager and staff staunchly deny any unethical goings-on. The Home's greatest appeal to these withered villains is that the deal with Jacqueline also means that they are not to be molested so long as they remain on-site.

Permanent

The true foundation upon which the Baynesbrook Home for the Aged is built. In his youth and middle years, the manager was a roving archaeologist and tomb-raider, who all too often came face-to-face with the Ancient Dead. As his youthful speed and dexterity were fading, and he had far too little coin in his pockets for his own liking, the manager struck upon a devious strategy. He managed to make peaceful contact with some of the more intelligent Ancient Dead and convinced them that their tombs were on the 'hitlist' of major universities. He offered them an alternative; for what was to them a measly pay of minor trinkets from their hoards, the manager would recreate their tombs and lairs in a place no historian would ever look. He would keep them safely hidden and provide them with all the ceremony their craved in their obsession with the past -- and he kept his word. Currently, the expanded cellars beneath the Home are providing shelter to nine Ancient Dead of varying rank.

Dangers

The whole Baynesbrook Home for the Aged is a Rank 2 Sinkhole of Evil with a taint of Greed. The rank rises to 3 or 4 whenever the Ancient Dead who still feel the need and energy to do such a thing roam the hallways to murder short-term residents or their visitors, or when the on-site priests (typically Adepts or Clerics trained in the worship of ancient and half-forgotten gods) engage in the rituals the permanent residents crave.

The Ancient Dead and the Sinkhole are not the only danger to be found here. The manager is approaching old age with bad grace, and is eager to extend his lifespan now that he has finally achieved financial comfort. He is not only raking in fees from the families of his short-term residents, he has sold the trinkets his permanent residents provide to secure their privacy and comfort for a veritable fortune. A not insignificant part of the money is going to treatments and experiments, meant to rejuvenate the manager. If anyone starts poking around the Home, thereby threatening the manager's cashflow, he is likely to react with swift, brutal, albeit secretive violence.
