Character from I, Strahd: The War Against Azalin and appearing in Strahd's in character narrative that comprises much of the novel's text. As of 547 BC, Auric was a hermit originally from Forfar, who fled that domain into Barovia when Forfar was drawn into the Demiplane of Dread and transformed into Forlorn. Under the guise of Vasili Von Holst, Strahd paid Auric to act as a guide to Forlorn. When Strahd found he could not cross the domain's border, he used his vampire powers of mind control combined with a magic amulet to control Auric and force him across the domain border to survey it as his proxy. Auric was attacked and injured by goblyns, but Strahd's influence and his wolves allowed Auric to come back alive, though Auric was injured and collapsed from exhaustion once he got past the border. Already having paid Auric, Strahd abandoned him to his own devices and the company of his wolves - although these seemed well-disposed to him as their vampire master had bidden them to accompany him. Regardless of whether he lived or died while incapacitated, Auric is almost certainly deceased in the modern Ravenloft timeline.
