Lying on the southern edge of Pharazia in the Amber Wastes cluster[1], Aljaugasba's bay acts as a bastion for trade for many of the out of the way lands such as Rokushima Taiyoo, the Shadowlands, and Sri Raji. This trade provides a the lifeblood for this mostly urban domain.[6] Its land is dry and dusty, preventing cultivation. The populations of the overall numerous but individually few in number fish species requires strict monitoring from the government so as to preclude much commercial fishing.[1]
Aljaugasba technology is unusual in that it reflects refinements of classical and early medieval intellectual developments to establish a booming economy and culture that is the equal of any Renaissance culture.[1] Although there is economic disparity between the upper, middle, and lower classes[7], even the poor can boast a few luxuries in their homes[3] and knowledge in their heads[7] that is not found many places elsewhere.
Yet with its blessings, Aljaugasba is not without its dark side. Called the City of Temptations for a reason, the city is slowly sinking into a quagmire of moral corruption. This began with the death of Sultan Amuraba. Prince Iben Amar has done little to halt this decline.[7]
