A Ghost who was steward of Richten Haus in life. He is the father of Gretta and Elise Bierce. He later became an embezzler to affod his family a secure future away from Richten Haus, but his theft made him become paranoid. Josef killed Casimir upon suspicion of the theft of his journal in preparation for blackmail.[1] Josef's bitterness alienated him from Karl Mueller, and Karl later murdered him upon Josef's rejection of Karl's marriage proposal to Elise.[2]

Josef's spirit now haunts the domain of Richten Haus as one of the its "Daylight Ghosts".[1]
