Alternative Cultural Levels

The cultural levels in Ravenloft are vague and historically inaccurate. Presented below is a revision of those presented in the core rulebooks:

Cultural Level 0: Savage

Cultural Level 1: Stone Age (10,000 B.C.E.-5,000 B.C.E.)

Cultural Level 2: Bronze Age (5,000 B.C.E.-2,500 B.C.E.)

Cultural Level 3: Iron Age (2,500 B.C.E.-100 B.C.E.)

Cultural Level 4: Classical Age (100 B.C.E.-400 C.E.)

Cultural Level 5: Dark Ages (400 C.E.-800 C.E.)

Cultural Level 6: Viking Age (800 C.E.-1,100 C.E.)

Cultural Level 7: Medieval (1100 C.E.-1400 C.E.)

Armour is coming into more use than ever. Crossbows are seeing heavy use because they are easy to use and require little training. The Longbow is a devistating weapon, but requires alot of training for accuracy and strength for use. New kinds of weapons are making appearances - Bombards, the predecessors to cannons, and the Hand Gonne, a hand-held cannon.

Cultural Level 8: Renaissance (1400 C.E.-1650 C.E.*)

* Encompasses real world Renaissance and Reformation periods.

Chivilric domains such as Borca and Richemulot fit into this category. Firearms are available here, but only Arquebus' Matchlock and Wheel-lock Muskets.

Cultural Level 9: Age of Enlightenment (1650 C.E. -1790 C.E.)

This is the correct time period for the 'Renaissance' domains of the core. Dementlieu, Mordent and Lamordia fit into this category.
