I just saw this last night. It fits Ravenloft perfectly.
The main character is a man in 18th century Paris who has a preternatural sense of smell. It chronicles his pursuit of smell, his becoming a parfumier, and his depraved attempt to capture the scent of a particular woman.
It has dark powers, and dark curses. It has lots of beautiful and ugly period elements. And the movie does focus on smell--you can practically sense everything happening around the main charcter.
Watch it if you get the chance.

Parfum in French (but the writer is German IIRC) is indeed very good. Nicely murderous and wild.
You have to read the novel, it's much more complete (as often is).
