Statting the Suffering

Post by Corrupted_Loremaster »

Finally got around to beating this game this morning, and have been mulling over the idea of trying to convert some of the creatures, but since I have more or less no experience at monster making, I could do with a spot of help. I've worked out a few things though.

Here's what I have so far:

I think more or less all of the monsters can be considered undead. All symbolize different forms of exacution, though a few are a bit of a stretch is this regard.

Slayers
Symbolize decapatation. Human body, arms and legs end in longsword-sized blades, starting at elbows and knees respectivly. Neck missing, head held in places with a vice-like contraption which emerges from the shoulders. Come in a normal type, and a larger, stronger type. Both are of medium size, though the larger type is certainly near the top of that size class. Agile as hell, able to make large leaps, as well as climb on nearly anything (Spider Climb?). Larger type can used blades to reflect bullets. Produce very noticable clanking sound when moving.

Mainliners
Symbolize lethal injection. Froglike human, greenish pallor, perforated with numerous needles filled with a glowing green liquid, as well as two needles pointing outward from eye-sockets. Small size, attacks by either throwing needles, or grappling and then stabbing with one. Poison in needles seem fairly weak, would say causes nausua-like symptoms rather than stat-loss. Can teleport short distances through pools of liquid (variation on Dimension Door or similar spell?) Very weak, seem to be bottom of monstrous foodchain so-to-speak. Rely mainly on numbers and surprise.

Noosemen
Symbolize hanging, and to a lesser degree flaying and disembowelment. Upper half of human body, with skin removed, and intestenes hanging out, and noose around neck, rope reaching up to large bloodstain on ceiling. Tries to drop down by surprise, grapple, and strangle target. Seems to be able to meld with ceiling, but is very limited in it's mobility.

Marksmen
Symbolize firing squads. Large-sized human, with numerous bullet holes, and a bagpipe-like contraption on it's back, from which the front end of four WW2 era rifles protrude. Blindfold over eyes. On several occasions will burst up through the ground, tied to a wooden post, then break free of the ropes holding it. Tech level or rifles slightly higher than anything found in cannon RL, might takes either some adjustment or a very good explaination.

Burrowers
Symbolize live burial. A humanoid form, covered in a burlap sack, wrapped in spiked chains, which are it's main form of attack. Tunnels underground (Wasn't there a rule about burrowing speed, kind of like swim speed?).

Festers
Symbolize drowning (bit of a stretch). Large, bloated, blueish skin human, with ball and chain attached to right hand, and some kind of cage over it's head. Large belly, containing several rats, which emerge to attack upon it's demise. Completely immune to bullets (DR vs. peircing?). Very suseptible (sp?) to fire, as well as slashing damage (A fire ax in this case).

Infernas (God damn I hate these!)
Symbolize burning at the stake. First appear as small girls (approx 8-12 years old), dressed in puretine (sp?) garb. Later transform in to form resembling a chared corpse of said little girls. Move extremely quickly, floating a half-foot or so above the ground, leave a burning trail behind them (Wall of Flame? Or something like it at least). Occasionaly stop to emit a burst of intense heat (Similar to a rather weak Fireball). Can appear from any flame. Almost always appear in a group of three.

Man, that was tiring. I'm going to take a short break, then give details of the three ghosts, Dr. Killjoy, Horace, and Hermes later on. All of them are around rank 2 or 3.

"The Suffering", an action/horror from Midway, availible for either the PS2 or X-Box. Sequel coming out soon as well.

Anyway, been thinking about the ghosts;

Dr. Killjoy (Still think that's a corny name)

Surgeon and alienists, appears as an image from a black and white movie come to life, and seems to need a 16mm projector to manifest himself and his abilities. This might pose a technological problem, but a magical substitute could be devised. He has an obsession with the human mind, and throughout the game tries to analyse the hero. He never really displays much in the way of powers, and in fact acts almost like a giest rather than a true ghost, although he does seem to be able to affect the corporeal world in small ways (locking doors with gates of solid light, turning on projectors), and seems to have a fairly limited ability to both summon and reanimte dead creatures.

Horace

Inmate, brutally killed his girlfriend during a conjugal (sp?) visit, died in the electric chair, doomed to relive the pain of his exacution over and over again until freed by the hero. Appears as a man in a orange prison uniform, with electrical burns around his crown and mild charing at the eyes, occasionally strapped in to a sparking electrical chair. Shows up from time to time to offer advice and open locked doors. Act as the voice of good, urging hero to display mercy and compassion. All powers manifest as bursts of electricty. I'd say a rank 1 or 2 ghost, chaotic neutral (I hesitate to call him good, as he seems to display no remorse for what he did) with a curse of being in constant pain until freed.

Hermes

Longtime exacutioner at Carnate Prison, commited suicide in his own gas chamber. Pure NE sadist, sees killing as an art form, takes the opposite position of Horace, encouraging brutality and giving in to inner demons. Appears as a thin, dessicated man who trails of in to green smoke below the waist. Attacks by both causing poisonous gas to flow out of seemingly any grate or vent, as well a throwing a ball of the same kind of gas from his hand. Rank 3 or so ghost, special powers related to poison gas.
