WORLDS OF RAVENLOFT is coming to DMsGuild

Now that "Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft" is out, I've given myself the go-signal to use the rules found in that book, re-write the domains I've created through the years, and put them on DMsGuild. I'm also creating new ones!

I'm staggering these domains out in a series of accessories called "Dread Domains." The first release is "Charity Cape," which is available now. Charity Cape has now had three names: it appeared as "Charity Cove" in the first "Worlds of Ravenloft" netbook in 2002, then reappeared as "Cabo Caridad" in the second "Worlds of Ravenloft" release in 2012.

Eventually, once I get a few of them out, they'll be collected in a new DMsGuild bundle entitled "Worlds of Ravenloft."

Thanks. Yes there will be new domains, ones that didn't make the cut in the previous "Worlds of Ravenloft" books because of lack of concept back then on my part.

One of them will be a Viking-themed domain.

I'm not familiar with what the fans have done, but before Har'Akir was redone in VRGtR, I was working on it myself. I decided that since my group is going through the Grand Conjunction, it might make things compelling if Ankhtepot was actually a darklord from Earth (an actual Egyptian pharaoh). Of course, there's little way I'd be able to portray that to their characters, but I think the players would find it very compelling if they knew the depth of what that meant. I'll have him talk about how the gods denounced and renamed him, so he denounced and renamed them (easy way to explain why we never had a pharaoh Ankhtepot and his names for the gods in VRGtR aren't Egyptian anymore). I don't know how much Earth lore to pull in and how (they're only on FoG, so I have time), but I plan to make it as awesome and compelling as possible since it'll be the only link to Earth my players may ever see in Ravenloft.

So to me, having an actual historical figure as a Ravenloft darklord can and should be done, but if you're going to do it, I'd encourage you to go all out. Especially since the history of these figures is stronger and deeper than any fictional character can ever be.

Well, if you want to take a historical figure as a darklord of Har'Akir, take Amenhotep IV (aka Akhenaton), a pharao that tried to change the egyptian cultur to become monotheist. he built a new capital and was perhaps killed by the priests. His name was erased, his city forgotten and his tomb was discovered only recetly.
He could be a good one.

If you plan to play "night of the walking dead", you could also play the sequel (on Dm Guild) "Under the Bllod Moon". Really good work. I plan to reunite my old players and make them play it.

Not to hijack Dion's thread too much more, but if you're not familiar with Gothic Earth as a concept, check it out on Misitpedia. It's the setting for the Masque of the Red Death offshoot of Ravenloft, an official sub-setting from 2e and 3e. Canonically, Odiare comes from Gothic Earth's version of Italy, so your idea has precedent.

UPDATE ON IXCAPA (Domain in the Throes of Impending Apocalypse):

I was supposed to release Dread Domain: Ixcapa last July, but Covid and Duterte-infested anxieties got in the way. But I've made it my goal to release it this month (September 2021).

Here's something that wasn't present in the 4E incarnation of Ixcapa: a map of the domain, containing already-mentioned locations and brand new ones which would be detailed in the 5E incarnation!
