I got to see it last (k)night and loved it. I liked how Ledger emulated Ceaser Romero's laugh and also captured alot of the essence Nickolson put into the Burton movie. Very nicely done.

My fave scene was easily the joker leaving the hospital as it's exploding, stops, looks and hammers the detonator to raise the rest of it to the ground since half the explosives didn't go off. Pure genius.

Definately a dark movie, but I wouldn't say it was to dark, it's what Batman should be

Also, Tarlyn, The Incredible Hulk is not The Hulk 2, it's a new starting point since The Hulk lost it's Marvel licence a little while back (since it was so unpopular).
Nice to know.
Thanks Wiccy!

Very, very good movie. For me it was sort of like Batman- The Animated Series if allowed to not pull punches. I'm just wondering what the next movie holds in store for us *shivers with excitement*

I've seen quite a few people clamoring for the guy from Dr. Who (can't remember his name) to be cast as the Riddler. Not a fan of the show, so I don't know the actor well enough to voice an opinion on it myself.

Anyway, TDK was excellent. It's a pity that Heath Ledger will win the Oscar because he died. He deserved to win it on his own merits. It was a very different Joker than I (who don't read the comics at all but was a big fan of The Animated Series) have known before. I won't say it was clearly better or worse than Nicholson's performance, as they're just two very different takes on the character.

But for me Harvey Dent really stole the show. Aaron Eckhart's performance was absolutely flawless.

Which one? There's like ten! :P

Do you mean David Tennant?

Riddler would be sooo much better as a straight man than another Jim Carey Joker-wannabee.
A burglar/hiest movie would be interesting, with Riddler and Catwoman. With Batman trying to outsmart the master thieves who are also trying to out-do each other. But that might be lighter than needed.

He has expressed interest in the role in the past, so I'm guessing that is indeed the actor that JT was referring to.

I saw it for the second time yesterday. Just as good the second time as the first, I gotta say (though of course, the little things that surprised me in the first didn't this time. Well, except for that dead fake Batman dropping down out of nowhere. That startled me).

Excellent movie, though, and definitely the capstone for the super-hero movies that've come out this year. Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Hellboy II: The Golden Army were all great, but The Dark Knight tops them all, hands down. Man, I cannot wait til they're all released on DVD (especially when it comes to Hulk. I want to see a director's cut of that, as I heard they cut nearly an hour, including something with Nick Fury!).
Also, Tarlyn, The Incredible Hulk is not The Hulk 2, it's a new starting point since The Hulk lost it's Marvel licence a little while back (since it was so unpopular).

I wish the same would be done with the Superman franchise. Ignore Superman Returns, even if it was only a few years ago, and start fresh. It's a shame that DC can't do what Marvel's doing, and make movies themselves. Then maybe they could finally get movies for their other characters off the ground, and get some good movies done about characters who aren't Batman. Unfortunately, being owned by Time-Warner pretty much nullifies that. And there's no way that Warner Brothers is going to devote itself to having a good chunk of their movie output consist of comic movies.

There's about 20+ if you count all of the recasts (when using older doctors), radio plays, etc. LOL!

OTOH, the ones who've died probably aren't returning their agents' calls, even for a Hollywood blockbuster.

Yep. After The Dark Knight, Batman is now Public Enemy #1. As far as Gotham is concerned, he's gone from vigilante to sociopath murderer and cop killer. So the events of the next movie will probably include events which'll redeem Batman in the eyes of Gotham.

Personally I'm hoping for Bane. He's been handled pretty badly in the comics, but I love the idea of Bane. That idea being that he's someone who could have been Batman had he wanted to. His mental faculties and physical capabilities are easily on par with those of Bruce Wayne. But because of circumstances, his life took a different course. So instead of turning his inate talents towards altruism and crimefighting like Bruce Wayne did, he instead decides to become a modern day Alexander and build an empire with himself as absolute monarch. So that's what I'd like to see for the third movie. A sort of "What If...?". What if Batman decided to become Gotham's crimelord, with Bane in the role of Batman, and Batman having to face a resurgent criminal cartel in Gotham, firmly under the control of someone just like him.

I gotta say, it's a damn shame that Matt Wagner won't sell his character Grendel to DC (I can understand why not, but the Batman fan in me would love to see something like that happen). He'd make for the ultimate Batman villain, because Hunter Rose is Bruce Wayne's dark reflection in every way.

I finally got to see it this last weekend. It was a decent movie, which is already pretty high praise coming from me since I don't like superhero movies much.

Ledger's acting wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be. It's good, don't get me wrong, but not scary. I always had the impression that he was playing a part. I'm not sure why all the reviewers were concerned for his sanity in getting into character. He still beat Bale by a mile though, making this movie similar to Burton's movie in that the Joker steals the show.

The movie was considerably more realistic than most superhero ones, but that may have been a drawback, because the contrast with the inevitable over-the-top elements is even starker. I never got the sense that Batman was ever in serious danger. There were unbelievably (in the purest sense of the word) slick tricks the characters pulled off... and then Batman suddenly crashes his bike just because the plot requires an on-foot showdown with the Joker. The same deal with his gadgets - when you've got computers and suit mods that will do all this stuff for you, there comes a time when you don't really need a superhero inside it all.

It's the same problem you got in Burton's movie when the Joker is hopelessly outclassed by Batman in the cathedral tower fight. The hero is a billionaire with countless resources on his side and an invincible body suit. So who cares?

Harvey Dent was an interesting character, and could have been really good in a movie that was less crowded. He never seemed particularly convincing as a renegade (Batman has far more resources than he does - a crippled lawyer missing half his face) or as a badguy (the Joker likewise is just capriciously malicious and does a better job of it).

Some flaws carried over from the first film:

The fight scenes were badly done and incoherent.

The movie includes a few nods to Asian settings just for scenery purposes and disposes of all Asian characters as secondary.

Christian Bale sucks and still looks like a stroppy rudeboy, possibly from outside Tynemouth. The growly voice is especially silly in this one.

All in all, a good film for what it is. I think the experiment is officially over and having seen X-Men 1&2, Spiderman 1&2, Batman Begins and now The Dark Knight, it's safe to say superhero movies just aren't my thing.
^ I agree with this, which was written by my friend Allie Cove.

Except for the bit about Tynemouth, which is just too flattering to Tynemouth. ;)

Liked it a lot so far.

Best superhero movie in a few years, best comic adaptation in a long while.
Good actors, alltogether, and great action.

Problem for me, personally, were the many plot holes:

- So the Joker throws Rachel out of the window and then leaves without anything more?

- Or who built the Batsonar in like three days?

Also, one could have played better with the fights, I think. So Batman first takes out an entire SWAT team but is then punished by a crazyman with a club...? - Naaah, he's Batman!

But apart from that, best popcorn movie since the first Pirates and before the next Transformers! :D

Was he supposed to wait around for Batman to get back up there and capture him?

Same people who're building the Batcave, built his secret base in Gotham, etc. Wayne probably hires out different people to do different things, and nobody has an idea of what the completed project looks like.
