Alright, now that I've had a day to watch & listen to the new album, here's a review:
The basics: DualDisc, CD on one side, DVD on the other, some CD players may have trouble with the disc, so be forwarned. CD side includes 12 songs, DVD side plays the full album (with or without subtitles) plus six animated videos (original songs only) and a behind-the-scenes montage of the recording process. There's also a karaoke feature for when you want to totally geek out.
The songs: R&B and rap fans will get a kick out of this album, as three of the parodies and parts of the latest polka fall into those genres. The rest is a blend of rock, pop, and just plain weirdness (yay!).
1.
White & Nerdy
Parody of
Ridin' by Chamillionaire featuring Krayzie Bone.
I haven't seen the video, as myspace is blocked by my job's firewall, but I'm looking forward to it. There was a time when this song could've been my unofficial personal anthem…
okay, it still is.
Though I gotta wonder why gangstas don't bowl…
2.
Pancreas
Original song, sorta Beach Boys-style, with animated video.
It's light humor, not one that'll ever be a single, but the video will shock a laugh out of you. It features a realistic computer model of a human pancreas dancing around in a series of clips from old 1950s film & tv clips; I can't identify the original footage.
3.
Canadian Idiot
Parody of
American Idiot by Green Day.
I'll just include a small quote:
Sure, they've got their national health care
Cheaper meds, low crime rates and clean air
Then again, well, they've got Celine Dion
Pretty much says it all, doesn't it?
Please don't kill me, I'm too cute to die.
4.
I'll Sue Ya
Original rock song, with animated video.
Kind of an old grunge feel, the video appears to be an somewhere between flash animation and cell-shaded animation. Does for lawyers what
All About the Pentiums did for the MIS department.
5.
Polkarama!
Oh, yeah…I'll just list the featured songs.
The Chicken Dance I believe this is the name of the polka tune itself.
Let's Get It Started by The Black Eyed Peas
Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand
Beverly Hills by Weezer
Speed of Sound by Coldplay
Float On by Modest Mouse
Feel Good Inc. by Gorillaz
Don't Cha by Pussycat Dolls
Somebody Told Me by The Killers
Slither by Velvet Revolver
Candy Shop by 50 Cent
Drop It Like It's Hot by Snoop Dogg
Pon De Replay by Rihanna
Gold Digger by Kanye West (I'm pretty sure this one's self-censored.)
I'll post the rest of the review later.
