Forgotten Realms vs Planescape
The question is quite simple. Which setting do you prefer as an alternative for Ravenloft?

I actually have to agree with Cole on this one, I've played in all three camapigns worlds and although all were enjoyable, I think I enjoyed the Birthright setting the most.
Still, in answer to the actual question of this topic, the Realms and the Planes are pretty much equal as far as I'm concerned...infact, the two Campaigns worlds have actually crossed over into the other during more than one game that I've played in.

I am sure that it comes as no surprise that I prefer Planescape over Forgotten Realms. However, I wouldn't say that I have anything particular against the latter. In fact, a lot of my personal bias might be from the great deal of campaigning across the planes and very little adventuring within the realms.
Despite my experiences, I love the grittier atmosphere of Planescape. The various faction beliefs and the philosophical nature of the setting also appeals to me. While both tend to be 'high magic' settings, Planescape tends towards what you know and believe in (versus being a superpowered archmage).

Playing in FR ? If I'd be desperate. DMing FR ? No. Never. Not ever.
I love Planescape, although I never really had a chance to play or even DM it ; in the decision between Ravenloft and Planescape, the latter is only second choice.
But, if by any chance and against all odds, my players survive the current Ravenloft campaign and succeed in their goals, they may escape the Realms of Dread - only to be tossed into Sigil...

I haven't really played either, but I like the idea of PS better than FR. PS seems more free in its concept, if that makes any sense. So, just what I'd like to play if it ever came to a choice.
Have to fight, cause I know
in the end it's worthwhile,
that the pain that I feel slowly fades away.
It will be alright

FR's always been a little too bright and shiny a place for my tastes, but I wouldn't need a gun to my head to play in it. PS on the other hand has always been a setting I'd like to know more about but could never find the books. I have gotten my hands on a couple over the years, and always quite liked what I read. Besides, how can I not like the setting which spawned what is argueably the best computer-RPG ever, PS:Torment.
I think we're property...

I prefer Forgotten since it's the first setting I had played! I adore also some famous Forgotten's characters as Drizzt Do Urden etc. I have no problem playing Planescape though.
