I promise that after my upcoming PbP campaign, noone of you will want to live in Staunton's Bluff either...

Hell, living in the dread realms?

- By no means!

There are so nice places in the Multiverse to live, like the Rainward Isles on Krynn, Verbobonc and Veluna on Oerth, Tagea on Erde, or even Bridshin or Greenswab in the Wilderlands... Why then settle in the Land of Mists?!

However, if I had to choose, I think either Tepest or the Shadow Rift, as a Fey... Or even Barovia?

Problem is, of course, that you're in the mists and can't get out... :)

I don't think Mordent is the safest place to be cause it's likely that the new house you bought is haunted, or that it's over a forgotten burial site, or that any loved one who dies will come back to haunt you and that when you die... well you get the point ;)

Actually, despite the veracity of your arguments, it still is. Ravenloft, remember? :wifred:

And remember, that while Ghosts can come back again and again and again, they can still be laid to rest by simple detective work.
Heck, Mordent is the only domain where a 1st level commoner can make a fool out of 20th level adventurerers :)
... just before they get mad and give him a swirrly in the privy.

Aaand... You're a commoner. :)
I dunno.
If you happen to identify yourself with a Shadow Fey...

I would Pick Mordent. the Darklord is kind of a hands off guy. EEven now in 3rd edition hedoens't seem to bother alot of people. Didn't the Gazatteer say that in the town in Mordentshire thier are not alot of hauntings. Plus I like living in an England type setting. I would list Paridon as 2nd, if not for the things in the sewers.

I'm a CG Exp 2 with ranks in several esoteric knowledge skills. 8)

I would live in Souragne(sp?). I love zombies. The idea of obedient dead makes me tingly all over.

I'd go see chickenbone for my zombies. I don't care what he demands. I'd also try to gain levels in adept.

If it was ME in person, then definitely Barovia or Tepest...

(Rafee's Real World Stats: CG Monk 4/ Sage 6/ Witch-Hunter 8... Yep, I am an EPIC person!)

I know I am odd out but I would go with Verbrek. Yeah the werewolves are bad... but you are forced to become tough, just to survive. I also love that there is no politics... and no one wants this land so no war.
I remember the first war, the way the sky burned... Faces of angels destroyed.

Nosos. first, no hippy folk. second, if I lived in Nosos, there would be industrial and power noize. and third, if the darklord was ever a problem(Malus Sceleris), I could wait for after he uses that charm ability on someone else then *stomp stomp stomp* when he's looking for the Advil.

Darkon. Knowing as much as I do about RL, I'd definately want my memories altered so that I *wasn't* aware that I was trapped in the Demiplane of Darkness.

Course, it'd never be that easy, would it? Even if I did try and get my memories lost, the Dark Powers would probably curse me with being haunted with them constantly. Bastards.

Other than that, Mordent. Sounds quite a lot like somewhere near where I grew up, except for the being evil bit. Lived in the most haunted county in Britain as well - although, aren't they all the most haunted? I live in the (alleged) most haunted city as well now. Britain just loves ghosts.

Great topic!

Remember, to the average commoner, Ravenloft isn't a cruel and evil world to live in. Sure, it's got it's share of oddities, like the Mists, and random strangers popping out of nowhere from time to time, but that's just the way of the world. It's always been like that for you, why should you question it?

Actually, just being a 1st lvl commoner doesn't nescessarily indicate anything about where it's safest to live. Being poor and out on your luck is probably just as hard in Dementlieu as it is in Darkon or Hazlan. Although the underclass is probably worse of in Falkovnia and Nova Vaasa, living can probably be quite easy if you're a part of the empowered (semi)elite...

Owning a farm somewhere in the outback of Nova Vaasa or Hazlan sounds pretty nice to me. I'd love to live in Nova Vaasa, actually, because it resembles old medieval Norway.

But I would probably favor Dementlieu. Being part of Dementlieus relatively wealthy but unimportant middle class would be nice. Lamordia seems a bit too cold even for my tastes, as a Norwegian. Plus the grub is better in the Mordentish-speaking lands. I'm more partial to tea and biscuits than cabbage and mutton. :P
