Present your campaign ;)

Hello my confratres (brothers, brethren, sisters, whatever )

Present your last/currently ongoing Ravenloft campaign here!
It’s always very inspiring to see what others do with the a setting.
Just give the main locations, some info on the characters, and the current developments.
Maybe some interesting discussions can develop out of this thread!

Cheers,

Rafael

My campaign: Darkon - The Eternal King

Post by Le Noir Faineant »

I am currently DMing campaign in Darkon, in the area south of Lake Korst. It’s very different from official RL, as Azalin seems to have successfully departed from mists, and so the land is vanishing bit by bit, kind of being eaten by the mists...
My party consists of three players, a CN human druid, a CN human ranger/mariner, a LN dwarven warrior and my NPC, an old NE semi-vistani gypsy. (Thank you, Wiccy, for that marvellous core class!)
They are about to finsih the first greater adventure arc, a srongly altered version of the WotC adventure The Burning Plague; basically, the mists are approaching more and more to the village the characters were raised, and after some encounter with a Caliban horde and a Bruja (possibly an ally?), they are currently trapped in the mine that is enclosed by the mists...

I currently run no RL game so I'll detail my last campaigns.

The PCs recently returned from Forlorn where an old tale of misery was finally ended. A druid (Snomur) discovered that a curse was on his family. Each new born his family had on Ravenloft was a goblyn. His wife had a son while he was off on a Prime during the Grand Conjunction. Seeing her son was a monstrosity, she went to see a powerful lich who then switched the curse from him to her.

When Snomur returned to his wife, he discovered she was a hideous goblyn. He sought his old adventuring friend to find a way to save her. This led him into the earth of Forlorn to confront the Restless Dead who was responsible for the curse. Kain the Druid was left to die at the claws of Goblyns when Snomur's ancestor abandonned him. Kain was trying to save his daughter who had been kidnapped by the Darklord's goblyns. When his friend preferred to flee, he curse his family: "Each newborn you have on this accursted land will try to kill you!" Snomur's ancestor fled Forlorn so the curse didn't begin until years later when Snomur returned, unaware a curse was upon him.

Thus, the campaign reached his climax as Snomur convinced Kain, now a restless dead, to lift the curse even while Kain was trying to slay Snomur. Snomur was reunited with his wife and son.
De retour dans les Brumes, enfin!

I am currently DMing a game in Kartakass with two players.

One is a druid (my GF and 1st time D&D player) and the other is a rogue (long time friend and D&D partner).
They are the local heroes of Harmonia mostly done to establish the game to my GF. Each session establishes a new piece of the setting from the Mists to the Vistani to curse items. Pretty much done slowly to introduce my S.O. to the game.
Currently Zev (me friend) is under the effects of a cursed pedant that improves his charisma and musical performance at the cost of his ego while Ingva (my GF) tries to figure out a way to remove the pendant. She’s the brains to his ‘sneaky’ brawn.

It’s been rather fun as my friend (an experience D&D and Ravenloft player) has been defeating every obstacle they’ve face easily while the pendant (picked up in the third or so session) has made him egotistical so he’s been composing song after song about his exploits. The entire town has been singing songs about Zev, while his ‘partner’ has been ignored and labeled his assistant.
It has only been recently when she has realized what is going on while he’s been excellently role-playing his manipulated personality.

So far they’ve defeated a bog mummy risen from the grave to avenge his betrayal, a cursed werewolf forced into it by an ivory necklace, an individual cursed by the Vistani and an evil cultist (a sign of things to come).

I am currently DMing a campaign that has travelled all over the core with 4 players. Each player in fact is on their second character due to various circumstances. I am also not certain how long they will continue to be like that as they recently had an interesting encounter with Toben the Many. The latest encounter involved Toben escaping Le Chambre (as per the web enhancement) and taking over the prison and trapping the PCs inside. I might even write it up as an adventure if anyone is interested...

The original four characters were: a rogue, wizard, cleric, and fighter.
The second four characters are: a paladin/blessed paladin, a sorceror, a fighter, and an unknown (the wizard died last session but was not present so she has yet to make a new character).

Currently the Sorcerer is an Ermordenung and is on special assignment by the Black Widow herself and in fact Falkovnian and Invidian troops have been mobilizing but no one knows why as they have not attacked anyone yet. The Paladin/Blessed Paladin is an outlander who was personally wronged by Harkon Lukas while he was released during the Grand Conjunction and has since tracked him down and killed him (or so he thinks.... hehehe...). The Fighter is from Paridon and acts like a rogue most of the time. He wants to be a Robin Hood figure of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor and therefore he wants to become a Highway Rider. In his career of stealing, he has only given a fraction of what he has stolen away to the poor and from his stealing and other things, he has failed 3 powers checks. The wizard that died last session was killed by Toben and rose again only to be killed again by her adventuring companions. Currently the characters are trapped in the locked down Chateaufaux prison and are trying to find their way out.
Information seems to come my way whether by chance or by fate, but all this means, is that I have yet to find out what will kill me and why. - The Stygian Inquirer

The exploits of my current campaign can be read here:
http://themistway.com

In brief, it's spanned the southwestern core from Lamordia to Kartakass, and most places in between. The current roster of characters is a half-vistani Spiritualist/Stygian Attendant, a Barovian ranger/Knight of the Shadows, a Borcan rogue/fighter/gunsmith, a Mordentish herbalist/bard, and a Nova Vassan True Innocent with a minor fey bloodline (and her brother and bodyguard, a monk/cleric sworn to silence).

The major driving forces for the campaign have been:

1) The cryptic notes left behind by the gunsmith's mad mentor. And the relentless Clockwork Man he created, who is searching for the soul he's convinced himself was made for him, but withheld by his creator.
2) The spiritualist's mother, the powers she passed to him, and the mystery surrounding his birth and her death. (They don't know it yet, but she was trying to breed an anti-dukkar to face Mallocchio). The mystery of her death has been solved: an accident while channeling the ghost of Baron Metus, who was trying to spur his vorlog lover to find and kill Van Richten.
3) The mysterious past of the ranger's mother and why she fled Nidala.

Over time, they've gotten caught up in the politics of Dementlieu, and its shaky relations with Falkovnia, coming to the aid of the Gondegal's Falkovnian resistance, as the gunsmith's mentor once did. They are also about to stumble onto the Kargat, and discover its connection to the bard's father.

They've made some powerful friends: the Carnival, the Guardians, Dr. Van Richten, the manusa Vistani, Gondegal, Chancellor Chantreaux of Dementlieu, and Lord Balfour of the University of Dementlieu.

But some equally powerful enemies: Said Clockwork Man, said vorlog, Metus, Juste, the Falkovnian Government, Ivan Dilisnya, The Brain, Mallocchio, Chancellor DuSuis of Dementlieu, and Lord Balfour of the Fraternity of Shadows. ;)

Having a blast and can't wait for next session: Showdown with Vir Stannum, the Clockwork Man.

My campaign is set mostly in Mordent, although the party has traipsed all over the Core, and revolves around intrigue in the Church of Ezra. The party has six players (yikes!): an LG human sorceror/thaumaturgist from Tepest who despises himself for clearly being fey-touched, an LN (I think) human bard/dirgist from Paridon who gained ghostsight when his symphony hall burned down, a CN human sorceror from Richemulot who was cursed by an old Vistani flame and is attempting to track her down and win her back, a CN gnomish rogue from Nova Vaasa who fled after coming too close to discovering the truth about Hiregaard/Malken, a CG human fighter/Knight of the Shadows from Falkovnia who is one of Drakov's 3.7 billion sons and hopes to eventually liberate the Falkovnians from his rule, and an elven ranger of some alignment or another with no discernible personality who has tread dangerously close to getting kicked out of the game on numerous occasions. There was also an LG anchorite of Ezra for awhile, but she died.

In addition to all the side quests revolving around the character's back stories, the metaplot revolves around something seriously rotten in the Church of Ezra. Many people suddenly went mad, claiming in between their crazed rantings to have had a vision of the goddess herself. Each of these people bore a scarred mark on their chests--a mark that also began appearing on several high-ranking clergymen about a year ago, when they began to have visions of Ezra appearing to them, carving the mark onto their chests, and then cutting her hand and allowing her blood to mingle with theirs. After this was established, the anchorite PC had a vision in which Ezra appeared for her weeping and asking the anchorite to save her people, only to be driven away by a fierce and cruel-looking copy who claimed that she was the true Ezra and that the entire church would realize it soon. Later, one of the maddened people awoke and claimed to have discovered the fifty aspect of Ezra, which he said revolved around stopping the forces of anarchy that had previously attacked their lands (the Whistling Fiend destroyed Blackburn's Crossing in the beginning of the campaign). Those clergy who disagreed with him were found dead, bleeding from their mouth, eyes, ears, and nose, with the scarred mark on their chests having gone foul and diseased . . .

I can't believe the PCs haven't figured this out yet.

I just started a Ravenloft campaign a few sessions ago. The party was in a small village in Lamordia trying to solve a mystery of involving the murders of several children. (Actually victims of werewolf attack.) When the party was able to expose and defeat the werewolf, they realized things were more complicated than they initially seemed. The mayor of the town (who was very suspiscious of the party) fled after the werewolf was defeated, leaving behind several clues implicating him in a larger conspiracy. (Cooperating with the werewolf was only the beginning.) The party had to seek out Ft. Jean-Pierre D'Aginorne, a cleric of Ezra in Dementlieu to heal one of the members who contracted lycantropy from the werewolf battle. In exchange for healing Ft. D'Aginorne asked the party's help in battling a necromancer and undead that had taken over a temple of Ezra. After defeating (rather easily) the necromancer the party came back to find that Ft. D'Aginorne's daughter had been kidnapped by a group of assasins known as the Lords of Death. Now the party finds itself in the midst of a conspiracy involving several secret societies. Was the battle with the necromancer simply a diversion? What are the real goals of the Lords of Death? What is the Society of Shiva (which the lamordian mayor was apparently a member of)? The mystery continues...

Hey i'm a new to the fraternity of Shadows. And for my first post i would ike to share a littke of my campaign with you.

I play Ravenloft since 1993. Back then I got my first copy of "The Black Box". I started DMing a group of five players but eventually, they became four, a Ranger, a priest, a Thief and a Mage.

Cornerstones of this Roleplaying experience are: the adventures From the Shadows and Roots of Evil, their first "high level" adventure which i enjoyed very much. Nighmare Lands, a really enjoyed using the rules for Dreams. House of Strahd, I actually managed to kill my party with some incredible rolls, that are still a Legend between us. Bleak House, after rolling up new characters, this one was great. Now, they achieved their membership of The Circle as honorary members. They still have to prove themselves to Godegal, to be a part of this secret society.
I started playing Ravenloft withthe second Ed. AD&D, and still am. I actually didn't get my hands in any of the third ed.stuff. But don't worry i am planning to convert, this year.

I have bought the ESD versions of Vecna Reborn and Die Vecna Die. Both of them will be played in our annual reunion. So If you have already played them, and have some tips you can share, I am all ears...and eyes.

Thanks!

Hi all,
I currently running a ravenloft campaign that has run on for more than a year now, still very enjoyable to everyone, you can read all about it in the smoking room under Jennifer's campaign, so I won't bore you with the details here.

Soon I will start a short Masque of the Red Death campaign as well. I got the boxed set for my birthday and I wanted to try it out. I will play with four, mayby five players. I have at least one Big Game Hunter, a Spiritualist and a Physician. I am hoping to get one or maybe two more characters. All the PC's are from the Netherlands (as am I) and they will all be traveling to Southern Africa of 1896, when the tensions between the British and the Afrikaner Boers were runnning very high indeed.

As soon as the party starts adventuring I'll post some more on the Gothic Earth Board.

Well I thought I might present what I'm playing when I do start playing RL again.

While the players were travelling during the last campaign, they encountered a barovian village were behaving in a very odd manner. Odd even for Barovians towards outsiders.
At night, they discovered that the village was controlled by a cult of edonistic vampires who revered a Matron (acutally a Venus priestess who became a Vampire through a failed resurrection). The PCs managed to survive the night and fled immediately at dawn. But, they did swore to return after they accomplished their current task.

So my next game, the PCs will return with lots of stakes to take all those vampires out.

More info as I work on it but that's the basic idea: a good old vampire hunt!

I used to play a campaign based on FR / Ravenloft hops (a friend co-DM was working with FR while I was DMing the RL adventures. I/he was a player when he/me was DMing). It was an excellent formula, but the players reached 12-14th level, and they were tough cookies for any Ravenloft beings.

So the FR campaingns continues with these PCs while I started a new RL-only campaign nearly two years ago.

My current RL campaign is with RL natives PCs, most of them from Zeidenburg. They started their adventuring carreer as Gundarakite rebels working with Ardonk Szerieza's rebel forces against invading Barovians in ex Gundarak.

The campaign started when they left the Gundarakites for it was becoming more and more reckless.

Their first "exploit" was the defeat of a wooden golem, holding the hating spirit of an assassinated boyar.

Then they had a hop to Baron's Evensong for an evening of food and song.

Now they are finishing the Evil Eye events, where I mixed the maximum of NPCs encounters I could add.

You can read these tales in the salon under "Joel's campaign".

Future plans (for what it's worth):

- accompany Tara Kolyana to Levkarest
- find a cure to lycanthropy (2 are affected by Nathan Timothy)
- one of them, Varadan, will find his Barovian heritage and will start having nightmares about it
- tara Kolyana will soon start having her Tatyana bad dreams, that will soon change to nighmares.
- Varadan and Tara's nightmare will become mixed, thanks to the Nighmare Court
- they will accompany her back to Hazlan, avoiding Barovia
- I'd like to add the White Fiend encounter, if I improve the mini adventure trek with it
- on the return, Forlorn!

That's it for the moment :)
