I6 and I10

Post by Le Noir Faineant »

Hello,

As I am currently looking for I6 or the 2e variant *House of Strahd*, I wonder if it is possible to patch it together with I10 into a longer campaign.
-----------------------
:x Of course it is, but were those two modules meant to be combined originally?

*Would be a nice Halloween game for my group*

Thank you,

Rafael

Ravenloft I6 was originally written as a stand-alone module. They could be combined, but it will take some ingenuity on your part.

Do you want to run one as the sequel to the other, or do you want to combine them piecemeal, using the fever dream scenario in I10?

The problem with the "fever dream" scenario -- apart from its being one heck of a challenge for a DM to coordinate -- is that the two adventures are at such a different level of complexity, at least as written. I6 is more of a straightforward Solve-Clues/Find-Cheese scavenger hunt, whereas events in I10 can pull the party in potentially dozens of directions, with a huge cast of NPCs to investigate and (even harder) get to know well enough to guess who's been transpossessed. Unless you add a lot more plot-elements to I6 yourself, it's VERY hard to keep from running out of adventure in Barovia before the Mordent storyline has even gotten off the ground. That's assuming you're giving the two settings "equal time", of course, but skewing things so I10 gets the lion's share of playing time is kind of a let-down: it's I6 that's become a legend among game-modules, after all! :-/

Try SV Games, they should have them both for electronic download for a small fee. the WotC website did have I10 as a free download, so try their classics download section.

Thank you all!

I read I10 a while ago and found it *chaotic*, but not essentially bad.
About I6 now, I know only the *main plot*. (I played the NWN module and found it quite interesting.)

Now, it seems that they were not meant to be combined, as I read your posts here.

Naybe it would even be fun to place I10 before I6 and so explain how the players entered RL...

I am just bidding on *House of Strahd* on ebay, and if it doesn't become more expensive than a gaz, I might as well take it.

If I played it with my group, then it would not be as part of a larger campaign, I think, but as a *special*, maybe on Halloween... :D

As a sequel, putting I10 before I6 would probably work best. Gives the PCs a better reason to go after Strahd (steal my body, will you?).

In my (aborted) attempt to use the fever dream scenario, I set up I6 to run until they reached the castle's bridge, which would collapse under the carriage. Ever have a dream where you fell off a cliff? Same concept, except they wake up in Mordent. I never got much farther than that, unfortunately.

If, then I would use the I modules for a GE campaign, set somewhere in Transylvania (Mordentul... :D ), such a fever dream scenario would be really interesting, as I still have the *The Nightmare Lands Box* here unplayed... OMG! I am just planning a new RL campign... And my current one has not even really begun...

I've run I6 a number of times but I always found it bothering in that it ends with the party "killing" Strahd. Has anyone else come up with a way to end it so the party can still feel like they've won but in a way that also leaves them respecting Strahd? Defeating him doesn't do it in my book.
