I find the Doppelganger Plant fascinating as a concept and the adventure Horror's Harvest from Dungeon Magazine #38 is one of the best low level Ravenloft adventures (4-8 players of levels 2-4). In 5e the Doppelganger Plant was replaced by the Bodytacker Plant and the two have massive differences and I am not speaking of how different they look like but how different they function. The Doppelganger Plant has the ability to copy people from miles away while the Bodytacker plant has to physically attack them. The Doppelganger Plant relies on its podlings to defend itself while the Bodytacker Plant has vines that can physically attack and defend itself. The Doppelganger plant can copy as many people as it has pods (11-18) while the Bodytacker Plant can copy only one individual at a time.
I haven't found any miniature resembling the Doppelganger Plant but this is the closest miniature I could find. This is the link to the STL 3d printing model.
I played that adventure, Horror Harvest, and it was great.
The moment the players realized that it was a plant who was the main villain in the adventure !
It is also a fun way to add a player to your DMing team when you put back a podling in the group without the other players knowing That player had a lot of fun.

I always thought "Horror Harvest" would be a good adventure, but I've never had the chance to run it. Glad to hear you liked it and your PC's enjoyed it. Did any of them suffer ill effects from the meteorite?
From your description, I kinda like the Bodytaker plant more, Mephisto. Copying people from far away seems... bizarre to me.

I do not recall going there. I gave them enough of a bad time with the plant
I remember modyfing it a bit, so perhaps the radiation went out.

They could all have an armor made of lead or use a fridge to protect themselves from radiation...
