Magic school (Hogwarts from hell)
Magic school (Hogwarts from hell)
I read a fan domain of a magic school, the darklord came from Strixhaven and his backstory was if Snape had no redeeming qualities.
We should do a domain of a magic school, school has opportunity for horror, especially if magic is involved.
So thoughts

Don't we already have a horrifying magic academy in the domain of Hazlan?

And we have several domains for social intrigue you point?Solan wrote: Wed Jun 12, 2024 12:57 pm Don't we already have a horrifying magic academy in the domain of Hazlan?
Re: Magic school (Hogwarts from hell)
edised, I would recommend taking Solan's question as an opportunity to expand upon your initial thought. Why not just use the Hazlanic magical academy? I get the impression that you have answers to that question, but the rest of us don't know them yet.
To phrase the question another way: What do you see as the essential differences between Hazlik's academy and your proposed Hogwarts from Hell? If we know that, then perhaps we can get a better handle on what you envision.

Mystery, the dangers are hidden
The school has a history, a grand history like a Ivy League school.
It HAD a history as the best, but that was long ago before the rotten set in.
I’m thinking the headmaster is the darklord, dubeldore meets valdamort.

Re: Magic school (Hogwarts from hell)
Okay, cool. Was the Headmaster responsible for the school's decline, or did he inherit the role after the decline? And what Act of Ultimate Darkness did he commit to become darklord?edised wrote: Wed Jun 12, 2024 7:29 pm Mystery, the dangers are hidden

Re: Magic school (Hogwarts from hell)
The act of ultimate darkness was to groom a sacrificial hero to take on a treat he made. When thay survived the he killed them.
He was responsible for the decline but it’s worse in ravenloft. More aparent if you look that thangs are dangerous and the staff may have a agenda for good or Iill that is not just your education.

Re: Magic school (Hogwarts from hell)
Yeah, that certainly qualifies as an Act of Ultimate Darkness.
What sort of adventures do you see taking place in this domain?
Apart from the Headmaster, do you have any prominent NPCs in mind?

Re: Magic school (Hogwarts from hell)
Mystery adventure definitely, investigation and intrigue abound, dungeon delving for the “ chamber of secrets” like places.
I will get back to you on npc

You are assuming that the PCs are students, then?

Re: Magic school (Hogwarts from hell)
Maybe local shenanigans cause incoming strangers to abruptly de-age to student age, and local authorities move them to the school no matter how much they complain. The challenge becomes not only to survive the school of horrors, but also to escape the domain and regain their proper age.
Re: Magic school (Hogwarts from hell)
Ah, yes. I should definitely not underestimate shenanigans.
Re: Magic school (Hogwarts from hell)
Most likely but there is a turnover for staff, really they are under staffed.
Npc ideas:
Prof. Argist Bitter: spiritualist teacher, he is a master of the magic of the soul. A good teacher but with high expectations and at times harsh criticism, he is not afraid to let his students fail. He shows favoritism to the better students and mentor’s a select few.
Secret: bitter is a lich and mentors promising students to recruit them in to his secret society “mortis finite” to look for secrets of life and death.
Prof. Stefin Feld: magical animal teacher, she is passionate and sunny she wants everyone to enjoy her subjects and much as she does.
Secret: is a member of the van rictaur society, she is mostly intelligence gathering on possible dangers the school poses, and scout out recruits.
