Check also this...
It writes
Cortton, Chebney, Pel, Kuhl and Yurt are names taken from the novel Death of a Darklord. Cortton is the place where this story runs its course. The others are mentioned casually in the text. Yurt was once plagued by vampires (hence I put it near the border with Barovia, the ex-Gundarak part of it). Pel had once a monster living in it's lake. It was killed by the bard Calum Songmaster, but rumours say the monster has resurfaced. This may very well be another creature, though, or even mere gossip.

Thanks! I don't think any of those appear in any other materials, but still useful!Mephisto wrote:Check also this...

Re: Chronologizing the Ambrose Compound...
The Brotherhood of Broken Blades "was founded nearly 60 years ago... by Calum Songmaster" making the Brotherhoods creations around 699 BC (756 BC -60years).
The Ambrose Compound could have been built any-time between the beginning of the 8th century BC and before the Grand Conjunction or right after that cataclysmic event similar to Tepest.
Mistipedia places the date of the Brootherhood's creation between 696- 697 BC
697 BC: On this approximate year or the previous, The Brotherhood of Broken Blades is founded by Calum Songmaster
The Brotherhood could have being created because of close proximity to Gundarak and Medraut Gundar's experiments.
Possible major events that could have triggered the Brotherhood's creation or decision to make the Ambrose Compound:
691 BC The domain of Tepest appears. (Maybe an influx of evil magic users makes Calum begin fighting hags, withces etc. later inspiring him to create "the brotherhood")
700 BC First Dead Man’s War waged by Falkovnia against Darkon. (magic raises an army of undead)
704 BC Second Dead Man’s War is waged by Falkovnia upon Darkon. (Same reason)
705 BC Borcan monk of Ezra turned heretic Renthon Vorishtok writes The Revelations of the Prince of Twilight. (a dangerous magical book)
...........Vigo Drakov, one of the children of the Gentleman Caller, is born. (First historical appearance of the Gentelman Caller in Ravenloft, could have been encountered mistaking him for a mortal magic user)
711 BC Third Dead Man’s War
714 BC Hazlan appears
725 BC Lord Soth pulls the kender village of Kendralind from Krynn into his domain, for he seeks to create a race of Kender Vampires to serve him and terrorize the elves.
726 BC Repeated raids by the bitterkinder upon merchant caravans and travelers along the Merchant's Way motivate a group of merchants to create a slash and burn operation clearing a treeless swath around the path between Har-Thelen ...........and the border with Kartakass. This causes the Merchant's Way to be nicknamed the Merchant's Slash (Making known how the kender vampires where created).
727? BC BC Jonathan Amrose adopts Elaine and Blaine Clairn and no longer being a travelling adventurer settles up with his wife Tereza creating a base for "the Brotherhood"
729 BC The "Witch Aderre" kills Bakholis, the first darklord of that domain. Gabrielle Aderre inherits the position.
730 BC By this year, the Kartakans have absorbed many Sithican linguistic expressions into their own lexicon (maybe also stories about the bitterkinder creation).
730 BC According to "S", this is the final year of where "credible" and documented cases of goblyn attacks from beyond the borders of Forlorn occur (so maybe all these years continuous Goblyn attacks had made an impact as Goblyns are ...........created by magic).
735 BC Morgoth hatches his plot to capture the Tapestry of Dark Souls and freeing all the Evil within. Morgoth attacks the monastery of the Guardians with a mass of undead minions taken from the villagers of Linde.
736 BC Radaga is driven from the Catacombs of Kartakass and flees over the border with her undead army, where she becomes the darklord of Daglan. (having being informed about Drakov's Dead Mans campaigns, the brotherhood decides ...........to make it's base in the Amrose compound. Radaga is struck down, and Daglan Daegon revives. However, his fate is sealed with the destruction Crown of Souls and dissolution of all Daglan itself. (this could be also a trigger to create ...........the compound)
740 BC The Grand Conjunction occurs (Similar to Tepest the Brotherhood may have built a base of opperations in Kartakass)
..........Hazlik does an about-face on his views of magic. He now condones it and begins taking apprentices. Furthermore, Hazlik travels to (or rather, creates) Ramulai and establishes the Red Academy. (Seeing an influx of spellcasters ..........the Brotherhood sets up base in the notheast)

That's a great list, especially since I am still a newbie to many of the domains you listed. I have yet to delve one iota into Tepest or Borca or Hazlan, for example.Mephisto wrote:The Brotherhood of Broken Blades "was founded nearly 60 years ago... by Calum Songmaster" making the Brotherhoods creations around 699 BC (756 BC -60years).

I know the Radaga event is probably the most likely to influence the creation of the compound, but since Ambrose himself is "almost fifty" by the time the novel starts, that puts him at being born in the early 690s. Radaga might border on "too late" for the compound to have been developed—especially since it is located far to the north rather than anywhere near where she was active, suggesting influence from another domain. I might guess the Dead Man's campaign myself, but largely since that's also mentioned in Gaz 1 as a part of Kartakan history.
Further, it's entirely possible that Ambrose just lived in that house for his adult life, and just converted it to a base of operations (e.g. "the Compound") for the Brotherhood as soon as it was deemed necessary/convenient/etc. From what I saw, DoaD paints him very much as a former adventurer, so it's not unlikely he's been adventuring since his early 20s.
Also, I think he adopts Elaine and Blaine in 731, by which time he would be "almost" forty. According to the novel, she's 18 when it opens and 10 when adopted (8 when their parents died and survived for two years before being adopted). I think it makes sense that whether or not it has been christened "the Ambrose Compound," Ambrose clearly had to have somewhere to take them by then, especially given his age. I'd have to look deeper (*shudders*) to figure out if Elaine and Blaine always refer to it as the compound or not. If so, that would infer it was called such by the time they got there.
One could also argue that the compound was the headquarters of the Brotherhood of Broken Blades since its inception, and by virtue of being a member, Ambrose was lodged there, and once Calum Songmaster advanced in age (he's about 30 years older than Ambrose), Ambrose might have simply inherited leadership of those at the compound, and newcomers might've started calling it the "Ambrose Compound" thenceforth. This seems to work well as a justification, especially since "compound" suggests a much larger dwelling than a standard home—the type of place numerous people might reside. I think I like this explanation better myself, actually.
Glad that we're able to zero in a lot further on this chronology, and thanks again for your help!
