I think you are correct. I also spotted a headless horsemen, what may be Larissa Snowmane if we are lucky, among other things. Worth a watch I'd say. And that video confirmed the particular art i was commenting on is official book art.

At the end of the video it looked like Strahd was fighting Azalin. Looked similar to the artwork from Roots of Evil I believe where Strahd and Azalin are fighting.

I don't like that image at all, it looks stiff and lifeless... especially if I compare it to Stephen Fabian's, whose art was following the tradition of pulp dark fantasy and horror illustration (the foreamentioned fight is not one of his finest moments of illustrating but better).FiranDarcalus wrote:At the end of the video it looked like Strahd was fighting Azalin. As for the other illustrations, some are OK and some bad, all digital made images (I don't have a problem with that I am just mentioning it). They are really generic D&D illustrations lacking the atmosphere of the setting in my opinion. The only ecxeption being the House of Lament illustration, which looks better than the rest by far.
There is also the Crystal Club of Harmonia in https://youtu.be/mSJ34Eavlx4?t=423 and an image of Vikta Mordenheim. The later compared to the image of Robh Ruppel from VRGttCreated I would say it lacks a lot, especially in atmosphere, it looks more inspired by DC Super Hero Girls than Frankenstein.
I am wondering what the image at 07:48 is... maybe the destroyed tower from Tower of Doom or some colossal spirit making machine.
Is it my idea or is Larissa Snowmane about to puke while zombies climb up the steamboat? Maybe she suffers from rocking dizziness or is it something she ate on board the River Dancer (next time better avoid the notorious seashells of the Murky Sea).

Kind of looks like wreckage of a steampunk vehicle of some sort. A ship or a train, from Eberron maybe?Mephisto wrote:I am wondering what the image at 07:48 is... maybe the destroyed tower from Tower of Doom or some colossal spirit making [machine.
I like the vast majority of the art in that video. There are some clunkers, but some are extremely creepy. (I think my faves are the creatures crawling out of bags at 7:27. Not major characters or anything, but they are delightfully creepy. The apparent Ghost Dancer and Richemulot ones are also faves, and the guy with the cracked monocle. The Vistani caravan looking over the horizon at 3:39 is awesome too.)
I agree that the composition on the Strahd v. Azalin one is somewhat off. I'm just happy to see Azalin again, and moreover that his interaction with Strahd isn't forgotten or erased.

A recent tweet teases new info about Lamordia's darklord, who apparently has ways to "improve" adventurers to make them into better golem-hunters.

The latest Dragon Talk is light on new information, but near the end Wes Schneider lets slip a reference to a "haunted city of I'Cath". Also each domain apparently gets between four and eight pages of description (including the darklord bios), suggesting about same the level of detail as Darklords or Islands of Terror.
Plus, we'll get mist horrors and gremishkas (and carrionettes, which had been announced previously)

Well...
I guess... it makes sense now... that they gave Azalin's curse to Hazlik...
Excuse me, I need to go shout some things into a pillow.
Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof
Not sure how Jander Sunstar is still lurking about in the Mists as per WotC's own 5E canon, he's presumably still bound to a tree en route to Avernus (cf. Descent into Avernus). Because this totally screwed with my own campaign's canon since I initially had Jander dead (per VotM), and then found a way to keep him alive in the Mists (for his bit in CotN:Vampires), but had to do some really creative authoring to get him OUT of the Mists again to have participated in "the Ride" (in DiA), only to find his way BACK to the Core yet again later still.
Well, at least maybe WotC's workaround will be more polished than what I fumbled together. But still not holding my breath for that.

P.S. — I did give in and ordered both the standard VRG as well as the B&G version.

Re: It is back!!! What we do know about VR Guide to Ravenlof
Disappointing...
Mother Lorinda plus others...
I am wondering how the new domains are since they cut the descriptions of some of my favourite ones to create them, 12 domains have been fitted in 2 pages, these are very well described I guess. One of those is Nova Vaasa, after the cut downs in the 3rd edition Gazetteer WotC decided to continue giving it probably the least attention it ever had, Markovia and Keening the same. Among these are also the complex Nightmare Lands... even the Black Box has probably more details on this domain...
Well that "steampunk" image is probably Cyre 1313, The Mourning Rail...
Odiare "renaimed" Odaire
Erasmus Van Richten resurrected...
Azalin goes about shouting his true name...
Jander as mentioned before escaped Ravenloft to end up in hell and then decided to come back again. There's no place like home... (home as in which setting he was first introduced)
Never liked I'Cath... to small, four buildings and a Nightingale, I would prefer Rokushima Tayoo in it's place.
Klorr (interested)
The Headless Horseman is probably now a generic monster the Dullahan, unless if he stays in a bridge all the time impregnating women and producing mounted headless offspring.
Also one of my favourite Smilies in this forum is now a generic monster instead of an amazing Villain. I wonder if there is a number of appearing, maybe a sorcerer can summon now a swarm of jars

PC Rogue: Damn this Duchess Saidra is poor, why did we ever get here in Port-a-lucine for?... There is no treasure here...we are broke...
Duchess Saidra: Ha!... imbicillés you thought you coul-d steal my tré-asure but I fool-d you. I have spend ÆLL my mo-ney, you will né-ver ste-al my tré-asure now...
PC sorceress: Who did you call an imbicile?... abracadabra!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Doppelganger plant renamed to Bodytaker plant, if I was forced to make the change myself I would have called things as they are "Bodysnatcher Plant".
The Gentleman Caller is probably no longer a gentleman... well we knew that already.
The Weathermay-Foxgrove Twins in 735 BC are 4 years old...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Weathermay-Foxgrove Twins: We are going on a hunt uncle Rudolph.
Dr. Rudolph Van Richten: Fare well younglings...
George Weathermay: Rudolph I am worried... I believe Gennifer is infected with lycanthropy, it won't be long before she turns into a werepup.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No Dominia, no Gundar (unless if he is a sidenote in Invidia or Barovia), no Verbrek (although I think it exists with another name). No Sithicus, no Vechor, Sanguinia made it's appearance again in 3rd edition only to be lost once more in the Mists...
Without a Core it is only natural to not have the Shadow Rift anymore, though the area of Darkon that was Arak before still exists as is Keening. I guess all the fey moved to Tepest or the Dark Fairytale Fantasy of Dementlieu...
At least if D'Honaire still exists it should be Celeste d'Honaire-Loverde taking the reigns and not this nobody, Duchess Saidra ... (Celeste d'Honaire-Loverde is unborn in 735 BC but that never stopped anyone from mixing dates before so why stop now?)
Unspeakable Horrors is an obvious referrance to the 5E Ravenloft Setting I guess...
