Now, if it's not much to ask... could we get a hint of what else was cut from Gaz IV?
Yes, you can, well at least the Borca parts:

Almost all of the dread possibilities were cut from the Invidian gazetteer because of the space constraints in Gaz IV. A lot of good material was lost because of that, from all 5 domains.

Officially, he was a human eminent vampire Ari6/Ftr10, NE, but had amnesia due to his time as a skeleton, and basically roamed the wilderness as not much more than a beast. "His mind is as cruel as ever, but preoccupied with seething revenge and hazy fever-dreams of the past. He remembers nothing specific of his circumstances, except that he was once a great ruler, and was toppled by a traitor named “Dominiani.” "

I'd also like to point out that an ancient vampire and an Ancient vampire are not always the same thing.

Thanks for that tidbit!

As per my research in the Known Vampires thread Gundar is an Old human Ancient nosferatu vampire. [ Gundar becomes a vampire in 289 BC]. While Strahd's age category is ancient ("I am the Ancient") [became a vampire in 351 BC]. Strahd will become Eminent vampire in 851, while Gundar becomes an Eminent Vampire in 789.

Where did I go wrong?

Unless I am missing something here, ancient is a category while Strahd refers to himself as being 'ancient'. The two are not related. It's me referring to myself as 'Dark Angel the Heavy' while not really weighing as much as it indicates. It refers to my influence on the ladies.

For Strahd it works out for both iirc. As noted he will be Eminent in 851. I think i used the 3E vampire age categories there (not sure if the differ from the 2E ones)

Interestingly Kas is/was the oldest vampire resp. age categories.

Figured as much. Even as I typed I was trying to remember how old Strahd was when he penned that part of his diary. The issue is he could have been ten years into vampirism or 300. I have a feeling it was a bit more of his own ego working than his knowledge of Van Richten's work.

Strahd likes to over-simply stuff. For example, He's intricately bonded to the land, he's not the land. And he's not the land outside of Barovia. As such, when he claims to be ancient, he probably refers as being older than any human.

Although I pictured this: 851 BC, Barovia, Castle Ravenloft. An assortment of gargoyles, vampire spawns and a few bizzare creatures created with Strahd's malferic meld wait in the courtyard. Strahd appears on the balcony and declares to thunderous applaud of his minions:

So Strahd's mental breakdown will be in 100 years or so then? I know times are rough, but hey at least he survived the Time of Unparalleled Darkness!

Hi Everyone!

Does anyone have the contact of Pierre “Gomez” van Rooden the author of the article about Duke Gundar in the Book of Secrets, or know if he is a member of this forum? The Book of Secrets had his e-mail, but it is no longer working.

I would like to ask his permission to use his content about Duke Gundar on a video to my youtube channel about Ravenloft, the Hour the Raven.

Thanks!

I like Gundar better than Strahd.

:D
Delight is to him- a far, far upward, and inward delight- who against the proud gods and commodores of this earth, ever stands forth his own inexorable self.

Belated, but Duke Gundar was given stats for 3.5e in A Calling from Verbrek, which is available in the FoS library.

Nharov Gundar Ftr13: CR 17; Eminent vampire

Medium undead
HD: 13d12
hp: 103
Init: +11 (+7 Dex, Improved Initiative)
Spd: 50ft.
AC: 25 (+7 Dex, +8 Natural), touch 18, flat-footed 18
Base Atk: +13
Grp: +22
Atk: +22 melee (1d6+9, and energy drain, slam), or +22 melee (1d6+9, saber)
Full Atk: +22/+17/+12 melee (1d6+9, energy drain, slam), +22/+17/+12 melee (1d6+8, saber)
SA: Blood drain, children of the night, create spawn, domination, energy drain
SQ: Undead, alternate form, cold and electricity resistance 20, darkvision 60ft., damage reduction 25/silver and magic, fast heal 8, gaseous form, light sleep, spider climb, turn resistance +7, vampire weaknesses
AL: CE
SV: Fort +8, Ref +13, Will +8
Str 29, Dex 25, Con -, Int 15, Wis 14, Cha 17

Skills:
Bluff +16, Climb +25, Hide +15, Diplomacy +5, Disguise +5, Intimidate +21, Listen +14, Move Silently +17, Ride +17, Search +10, Sense Motive +12, Spot +20

Feats:
Alertness, Blind-Fight, Cleave, Combat Expertise, Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Great Cleave, Improved Bull Rush, Improved Grapple, Improved Initiative, Improved Unarmed Strike, Iron Will, Light Reflexes, Mobility, Power Attack, Quick Draw, Spring Attack, Toughness

Languages: Luktar, Balok

Possessions: Rusty ceremonial saber

This could be a starting point to creating your own statblock for Gundar. Also, can someone explain why this character (and the 3E official Strahd also) has "cold and electricity resistance 20" when 3.5e vampires only have 10 of each? Is this from 3.0E?

It could be a perk for (ex-)Darklords.

I checked the 3.5e Monster Manual and confirmed it's 10 and 10. I found the 3E version here, which confirms that 20 and 20 is a holdover from 3E. Going through RL statblocks is hard work.
