Thanks. Yeah, official can have some pretty large quality spans, but I like to know which things are considered canon then pick from the rest.

this Darkon Gazetteer for 5e looks pretty impressive:

It's by an "Oliver Clegg." Anyone we know?

What level of canon is appropriate for entering DM Guild's stuff for the Mistiipedia?

Re: DM's Guild releases
That's a very good question. Does it deserve it's own level? Is it just homebrew? Even though it's "published" by wizards, I hesitate to call it completely canon, since I don't think they do any sort of vetting on it. Thoughts from the crowd? The Lesser Evil wrote:What level of canon is appropriate for entering DM Guild's stuff for the Mistiipedia?

Re: DM's Guild releases
Ravenloft as a setting is pretty much in the dropped state as far as WoTC is concerned. Maybe that will change in the future, but WoTC is more interested in tying DnD to their other money-making products (Magic the Gathering) and the original settings of popular streams like Critical Role. Thus most Ravenloft development is going to be coming out of fans. Should the wiki reflect the setting as it has fossilized or the living work of fans who are still making stuff?
My opinion overall is that wikis basically have infinite space for text. The main issue is making sure articles are properly marked and tagged so no one can mistake one canon for another and cross the fan canon with the other canons. "X is a character from the XX module, which is part of the Y Product from DM's guild."
What Mistipedia really needs right now are some "meta" landing pages that explain the setting and the product line from the Doylist view: the different canons, editions, netbooks, etc.

Re: DM's Guild releases
Well, we do have this:Mischief wrote:What Mistipedia really needs right now are some "meta" landing pages that explain the setting and the product line from the Doylist view: the different canons, editions, netbooks, etc.
http://fraternityofshadows.com/wiki/Mis ... s_of_Canon
and this:
http://fraternityofshadows.com/wiki/Release_Timeline
but they are admittedly not super easy to find. maybe they should be linked on the main page.
There's also a link on the main page to our FAQ:
http://www.fraternityofshadows.com/FAQs.html
But nothing of that nature right in Mistipedia... but the great thing about a wiki is: if you see a need, go ahead and fill it.

Re: DM's Guild releases
I think it would be useful to at least have a category for the DMG Guild related stuff, and a level of canon might not hurt either. We also might want to consider what to do about the Adventurer's League modules (like the Misty Fortunes and Absent Heart Series) as well as even the RPGA stuff. Does all of that count as canon?

Re: DM's Guild releases
So I'm not sure if it's been noted anywhere in Mistipedia as such, but I'd consider the old RPGA modules to be canon, as they fit the definition of "published by TSR". I'd lean toward extending that to the Misty Fortunes... series. The Lesser Evil wrote:I think it would be useful to at least have a category for the DMG Guild related stuff, and a level of canon might not hurt either. Re: DM's Guild releases
I think it might be helpful to have a series of templates that look like small symbols on the bottom or top of the righthand infobox or a bottom infobox/template to denote the relevant canons the topic falls under - like how Magic Cards each have a Set Symbol. That same symbol template, by virtue of existing on the page, will also categorize the page by the canon in the underlying wiki architecture, allowing users to navigate by canon. I know basic wiki markup fairly well and am no stranger to making templates, so I'm pretty sure I could get that working if users think that is a good idea (and want to propose some symbols.)
