If BENN does interview witnesses, you may post a Gather Information skill roll.

Nope.

It's a low enough roll he knows he's not doing well. This is with the initial questioning, maybe half an hour.

He could just quit, having gained any new or useful information.

If he wants to try harder, he can take 20. This represents a longer period of questioning, prying, really digging.
Maybe some hardball if he thinks somebody is holding out.

We can assume that she has shared, then. By all means, play on.
Not much we can say about it, but it is interesting info. Suggests we better look at old things like the castle.

Depends on timeframe. Unless I'm wrong, the message from presumably Matyr seemed to suggest we were supposed to meet him.

You are not wrong.

But the message did not make the meeting place clear.

It just read that you would know where to meet.

Yes, vague.

How many of the places where we've had significant interactions with him in the past are still intact/not burned down?

The Brazen Bee is still intact. So far as Benn recalls, that was the tavern where Dorgio and Norzak first met Jon.

The old Sancerre residence is still intact. Scene of multiple events involving Jon and the party--including Evie's brutal murder at Jon's hand.

The Grim Bastille/Grim Bastion still stands. It was in that ruin that Jon and the party battled masked criminals and zombies, and there they found the portal to Wolutha's realm.

And the Lorelei (where Benn is right now), though scorched along the façade, is basically intact and in operation. Benn cannot prove it, but signs suggest Jon--and not Van Diecks--killed the redheaded doxy, Rosalind, eight years ago.
Two recent female murder victims have known connections to the Lorelei.
Anabelle (the pregnant girl murdered in the prelude, at the boarding house that was firebombed last night ) once worked there.
Bernadette, the blonde murdered more recently and left near the Lorelei, worked at the brothel before being fired. That was what Madam Sophie said.

How far is the Sancerre estate from here?

NOTES

SUMMARY PART ONE

Sept 20

Gendarmes interrupt dinner at Benn’s house to bring BENN and DORGIO to the site of a murder.
Annabelle, a seamstress and harlot, has been found slain in her garret bed at a boarding house( very near Odall’s Eats.)

Juergin flees the dinner at Benn’s house after a disturbance and the revelation of his monstrous mutation.

Investigation of the murder begins…

Sept 21
Hornsby begins initial making arrangements for the family of BENN to leave the city.
BENN performs autopsy on Anabelle.
BENN also meets with informant

DORGIO goes looking for Juergin…

ALAIN returns to the city (others do not yet know this)

BENN invites everyone concerned (the party, minus Alain) to his house to explain about the murder of Annabelle and his suspicions as to the killer…

THE SHADOW OF NORZAK DARKENDER interrupts the meeting. This creeping thing, now linked somehow with the missing youth, Juergin, wants the party to leave Juergin out of its adventures. It offers advice and help. Cryptic warnings about the world’s walls thinning, a hungry beast, the strange ashfall, and maybe something to do with a derelict riverboat.

Further investigations
Tom looks into the derelict riverboat.
Most of the others set off to investigate the strange ashfall and ask around town about Jonathon Matyr.

The party makes an arrangement with the alchemist Flammarion, to analyze the ash.

Searching the Ghost Streets, where the ash cloud seems thickest, the investigators:
encounter Falkovnian refugees
learn that the cloud came in from the west about two days ago
find an uninhabited burrow-cellar with weird graffiti
and meet Alain Smythe

Rats flee west city en masse, right into the river.

That evening, most of the party goes to Tom the Printer’s manse for dinner.

Alain takes hired men and investigates the Grim Bastille for his own purposes.

Dinner is interrupted by bad news! Benn’s children and servants are missing and his house has been burgled.
When BENN arrives, he finds Hornsby has been brutally slain. Head ripped off.
A search in the night does at last lead to Benn’s children and their nurse, safe with some of Benn’s shadier contacts.

Sept 22

BENN and DORGIO’s families leave the city on the riverboat, BriarRose, an hour after sunrise.

BENN gets a message from an important lady. He goes to meet her.

KAT snoops around the docks after a man who seemed to be shadowing her.

Later, the party meets up at Odall’s Eats and compares notes.

The session is interrupted by a printed note, signed Jon, full of threats and reference ing another murder.

The party soon learns of Bernadette’s murder.

She was fired from the Lorelei three days ago( September 19th), seems to have been murdered just last night(September 21st)

Sept 22 continued

BENN and DORGIO go to meet the Ruby Oracle.

KAT, RAEN, SARA go to investigate a boarded up old house near the docks, where KAT had previously tailed her stalker.
They encounter a monster that nearly kills Raen, fight thugs, set the place on fire, and escape.

In the evening, the party regroups again, using the same cafe.

Boom! Firebomb hits the boarding house.

Sept 23

Further investigations

BENN gets another printed, mismatched note, this one marked as coming from some sort of Falkovnian terrorist group.

Current game day

Information gathering and interviews at the Lorelei, which was also an arson target
