Re: CONFIRMED: Ravenloft for 5th Edition
How you got it already?!? Isn't it supposed to be out in 10 days? (And here in like 2 weeks after that)

Stores that are part of the Wizard's Play Network got it on the 4th or so, while everyone else gets it later.

Re: CONFIRMED: Ravenloft for 5th Edition
I got mine on the 4th from a WPN store. Have to say it is pretty great. I haven't seriously played dnd since second edition with the occasional one shot into 3.5 or pathfinder but when I heard this was coming out I got so excited I called an old gaming buddy up and we have now started a Skype game up to get used to 5th ed so I can run this. Some of the rules changes are strange and I will house rule them (daylight/vampires and Barovian souls...) but it seems much more gothic. I think I might even redo parts to make it current time line but have it to where something happened causing Strahd to close the borders and tighten up his domain... as opposed to a time shift back... We will see.

Yeah, that Barovian soul thing is some hot garbage that I'm jettisoning out the nearest airlock.

I actually like it...
and it's the reason fiends have phylacteries in Ravenloft IIRC.

Re: CONFIRMED: Ravenloft for 5th Edition
I'm one chapter in, and so far, I'm very impressed. It already feels more "Ravenloft-y" than Expedition did. Yeah, if you want to fit this into the existing timeline, it's going to wreak havoc. (Ireena and friends entered Castle Ravenloft in 528, Darkon forms in 579, Van Richten isn't born until 671, and doesn't start fighting monsters until 706, and yet... here he is and here she is.) But who hasn't mucked with the timeline for their campaigns anyway, amirite? Maybe the Manusa vistani brought Rudolph back in time for a bit or something...
So far the only quibble I have isn't so much with Strahd's backstory, but with his character. He's described as cold and emotionless, except w.r.t Tatyana. I prefer him a little more passionate and ruled by his emotions, (especially in contrast to cold, calculating Azalin) but YMMV.

Actually, I will respectfully disagree with you. This is NOT only motivated by envy and spite that you already have the book, but also because I really prefer the "cold and calculating" dead man walking, that is CURSED to seek the love of a woman he sacrificed his humanity over.

I haven't have time to read everything in the book yet but I skimmed through it and either I missed it or it wasn't included but I haven't seen any references to Jezra. This is one of my favorite "ghost stories" of Barovia!

Would have been nice, but I have a feeling she's a bit too obscure to have made it in.tryst_91 wrote:I haven't have time to read everything in the book yet but I skimmed through it and either I missed it or it wasn't included but I haven't seen any references to Jezra. I feel like she could be put into the campaign however fairly easily, I think looking at the map of Barovia it still has the Balinoks right? If I recall correctly she's somewhere up in there right?Gonzoron of the FoS wrote:Would have been nice, but I have a feeling she's a bit too obscure to have made it in.tryst_91 wrote:I haven't have time to read everything in the book yet but I skimmed through it and either I missed it or it wasn't included but I haven't seen any references to Jezra. Yeah, no doubt she could be fit in easily, but she only appeared in a handful of products. Only the real hardcore fans like us would know who she is.Zilfer wrote:I feel like she could be put into the campaign however fairly easily, I think looking at the map of Barovia it still has the Balinoks right? Wow, just got to the background for Madame Eva..... Definitely dont agree with that change..... To each their own but I much prefer the mysterious original. I cant find hardly any info on dusk elves aside from a couple mentions. Seems like they should have their own entry
