As someone who has just recently made the jump to Pathfinder, I find the guides AMAZING!! It's helped a great deal with the conversion process. Awesome work Mr. Naylor!!

Re: Ryan Naylor's Pathfinder version of Ravenloft
I'm a bit confused on how multiple categories in a single powers check works when affecting future powers checks. Does a powers check with several categories count as a failed check in all of those categories? And if so, is it counted more than once for modifiers like "Per failed check in another category" or "After x failed checks in that category" for future powers checks?

Without a lot of thought behind it, my immediate responses are:
Yes, they do.
Yes, it is.
How does that work out in play for you?

Re: Ryan Naylor's Pathfinder version of Ravenloft
I haven't gotten to use it a lot in play yet, as I've been trying to wrap my head around the specifics of it by writing out what the percentages and progressions would be for various fanmade/netbook darklords based on the backstories. The system is good for figuring out percentages for actions in just one category (probably like the ones that PCs would do), but it can get a little bit unwieldy for repeated evil acts that involve multiple categories.
I'll give an example calculation below for Karl Britter (darklord of Jonenmark), whom was posted on the old Alanik Ray website. Starting in #4 in the example below, things start to get a bit wild because you have to making check percentages equations in relation to each powers check category.
Caress: Betrayal and Violence (100%): Murder and robbery of parents
6 base for cold blooded murder +1 victim is a relative +1 additional category=8
Enticement: Violence (2%): More burglary
2 base for burglary - 1 failed power check in violence category + 1 failed check in other category=2
Invitation: Violence (16%): Murder of excise officer
6 base for cold blooded murder -3 for previous failed powers checks in violence +1 for a single failed powers check into betrayal=5
Embrace: Betrayal and Violence (8%): Paranoia-induced murder of former partner Bissel
(5 base for crime of passion
+ 1 for additional category
+2 total for previous failed checks in relation to betrayal (- 1 for 1 failed betrayal check +4 for 4 "other category" violence checks)
- 4 total for previous violence checks ( -5 for previously failed violence checks +1 for previously failed betrayal check)
= 5 + 1 + 2 - 4 = 4
Creature: Betrayal and Violence (100%): Mass murder of many children and wife
7 base for mass murder
+ 1 victim is a relative
+ 1 additional category
+1 total for previously failed powers checks in relation to betrayal (-3 for failed betrayal powers checks + 4 for failed violence powers checks)
-2 total for failed powers checks in relation to murder (-5 for failed violence powers checks +3 for previously failed betrayal powers checks)
=7+1+1+1-2=8

Heya, love the work, I have been using a lot of this for my 3.5 campaign as well, which has been ridiculously helpful.
Thanks!

Re: Ryan Naylor's Pathfinder version of Ravenloft
Let me see if i'm doing this right... a cleric of ezra 6/anchorite 4 with a charisma of 16 (+3) would be able to channel positive energy 6/day and mist channel 6/day. Here's my question, do I get 6 uses for each or just a total of 6 uses for any combination of both?

So you came around finally to abandon the AD&D 2nd to it's deserved obscurity! I knew you would come around eventually. 15 years is not that much for an undead.

From 1st level, you can channel energy 6/day (3 + Cha bonus).Alanik Ray wrote:Let me see if i'm doing this right... a cleric of ezra 6/anchorite 4 with a charisma of 16 (+3) would be able to channel positive energy 6/day and mist channel 6/day. Cleric and anchorite levels stack, so it channels 5d6 worth of energy, but you can channel positive energy, or Mist-specific energy.
If you were an inquisitor 6/anchorite 4, you could still channel 6/day, but you could only affect Mist creatures, and you'd only do 2d6 points worth.
The cleric has added flexibility and power, but not uses.

Re: Ryan Naylor's Pathfinder version of Ravenloft
So I only have 6 uses of channel energy/day but I have to pick which (positive or mist) I'll use, is that it? I thought the levels only stacked for the mist channel. Here's how I was doing it:Ryan Naylor wrote:From 1st level, you can channel energy 6/day (3 + Cha bonus).Alanik Ray wrote:Let me see if i'm doing this right... a cleric of ezra 6/anchorite 4 with a charisma of 16 (+3) would be able to channel positive energy 6/day and mist channel 6/day. Cleric of Ezra 6/Anchorite 4
Channel positive energy 6/day (DC 16, 3d6)
Mist channel 6/day (DC 18, 5d6)
