The SRD and everything Pathfinder releases is open out there on the internet free. Technically you don't have to buy the books to play pathfinder in almost it's entirety. I still have bought most of the books because I prefer books over PDF's or scrolling through SRD/OGL. I'm just wondering how PF sales are compared to how DnD did with 3.x

Well, I've played a couple of PF campaigns just by using the SRD (and I prefer the 3.5 classes AND the grapple rules of 3.5. They really are NOT that complicated)

Hmmm.... not bad.

That's actually nice and finally ties in with the "modularity" promised since the start of D&D next. OK, I kinda expected the options to be on the table and tools to make more, but even just the tools to make the changes sounds good.

I bought the download. The adventure looks pretty good, but it seems like there is a map of Soth's castle missing from the download.

The Nothic got some interesting backhistory!
They develop from wizards that unlocked too much forbidden lore for their own good, and lost themselves in the process!
They also have the ability of "weird insight": By watching a creature they can learn one of its secrets.

I would say that's a nice terror path.

What's your overall impression on the new ruleset, gentlemen?

So far I really, really dig it.
It's hard to say if it's really solid without checking out the PHB and MM and DMG, but so far it really looks like D&D and has a LOT of classic elements and design but is really balanced and tight.
It's flexible for the DM and characters seem fairly fragile at low levels but not overly death prone while high level characters don't seem invincible.
Magic items are not assumed. There's nice flexibility in the classes and races.

I think it'd be a really solid system for Ravenloft.

I'm already hard at work at a Ravenloft 5e Update.

Good. I'll throw in some monsters, since we play D&D next with my sister and a friend, so I can test stuff.

As for revision: I prefer the 6 stages PChecks!
