Master Mangrum, I like your idea; something about a palette largely in shades rather than colours seems to fit Ravenloft like a glove.
Re: Ravenloft Artbook of Talon Dunning
Hello all,
I got my copy of Out of the Mists, and in the spirit of others, I wanted to share my card.
My favourite Darklord is Adam, and Talon was kind enough to draw him for me. I literally gasped when I saw the card, and it reminds me of why I like Talon's work SO much.

I'm glad you like it. It was fun to take another crack at Adam, who, like the monster that inspired him, is a challenging character to capture.Mortavius wrote:My favourite Darklord is Adam, and Talon was kind enough to draw him for me. That's why! On the 13th page... (irony eh?) is a picture similar to the one I got of Jacqueline Montari(sp?) from a different angle with a different head. I do not have a scanner to share with you guys however I might see if I can borrow a scanner from a friends house and upload it....Champ Masters wrote:Well, I couldn't resist it any longer. . .after receiving my sketch card and seeing all the other cool sketch cards that people have been getting, I knew I just had to have more!! I purchased another copy of your book Talon, just to get another sketch card! And I must say, I'm very pleased with having got the one and only Jacquline Montarri! Bravo Talon, you never cease to amaze! Keep up the excellent work and thank you very much!
On a quick side note, I always heard that faces and hands are the hardest features to draw, and as a dabbler in art, I have to agree with that. But you Talon seem to have no problems whatsoever. I was just wondering if you have any reference books or materials that you've used to help you learn to draw portraits so well, or is it just natural talent and practice?
Thanks again,
-Nick

I personally like that a good number in the booklet don't have names attached to them so I would be able to show them to my group without the outlined boarder and name at the bottom like Gonzoron does for his game. Just wish I could gather together a collection of all of Talon's work like that without the names (just attached separately so I know who they are, but the players don't. xD)
Obviously some are just too iconic like Strahd.

Re: Ravenloft Artbook of Talon Dunning
That's hilarious. I was just paging through this thread, looking at the various cards I've done over the past few years that people have posted and when I saw that one, I was like, "oh, crap!" I'd totally forgotten that I'd already basically done that exact picture! Man, I'm getting old... Anyway, I hope you weren't too disappointed to receive a conceptual rehash. I guess I just really like that character.Zilfer wrote:That's why! On the 13th page... If there is a specific portrait you'd like a copy of, let me know and I'll send you the jpeg of it.Zilfer wrote:I personally like that a good number in the booklet don't have names attached to them so I would be able to show them to my group without the outlined boarder and name at the bottom like Gonzoron does for his game. For those interested, here's my convention schedule for 2014. You can commission PC portraits at any of these events.
March 28-30: SecretsCon, Atlanta, GA: http://www.secretscon.com
May 30-June 1: FanboyExpo, Knoxville, TN: http://fanboyexpo.com
Aug 14-17: GenCon, indianapolis, IN: http://www.gencon.com
Aug 29-Sept 1: DragonCon, Atlanta, GA: http://www.dragoncon.org
As with last year, you can find me in the dealer's room at DragonCon, NOT the Art Show as in 2011 and 2012. I will not be attending Origins Game Fair this year, having dropped that show from my schedule. If any other shows are added, I'll let you know. Thanks!

Re: Ravenloft Artbook of Talon Dunning
lol! Actually I think I like the 'head' of this one better than the one on page 13. So it's good.
I just can't tell if that head is glaring at me with what Jacqueline's face is..... or if it's a 'help me.' sort of look. xD Could almost see it as a dead blank face as well. xD
Anyways nice drawing.
just wished there was more all around like i'm sure everyone else does! XD

Indeed! We had a design project going on, detailling different heads by Montarri (and the power it gives her). So the more heads, the more she's happyGonzoron of the FoS wrote:Note from fans: no, you just keep drawing her as often as you want!Talon wrote:Note to self: stop drawing this character.

I was going for dead-blank, with the eye rolled up in the head a bit. it's actually kind of hard to draw a face and make it seem lifeless. I still can't believe I did the same card twice and didn't realize it.Zilfer wrote:I just can't tell if that head is glaring at me with what Jacqueline's face is..... or if it's a 'help me.' sort of look. xD Could almost see it as a dead blank face as well. xD

I agree. Ravenloft should be a four-color setting--white, gray, black and red.Rogold Gildenman wrote:Master Mangrum, I like your idea; something about a palette largely in shades rather than colours seems to fit Ravenloft like a glove.

If you feel that bad you can do another one for me.Talon wrote:I was going for dead-blank, with the eye rolled up in the head a bit. it's actually kind of hard to draw a face and make it seem lifeless. Lol! Anyways, thanks. So those were the last two ones I'm guessing yes?
