Horseman of the Apocalypse

Post by seanadams »

I started another thread about multiple horror genres in d&d. I am going to be running a one off campaign about Toben the Many but I thought this idea belonged in a new thread.

I was watching the new Sleepy Hollow tv series which relates to the four horseman and I thought this would make for a good d&d story. Has anyone done this?

Death
Death would of course be a necromancer using the dead as a weapon.

Famine
Would be a magic user who destroys the crops and food stores of a town/domain.

Pestilence
Could be a Druid or a magic user of some sort and uses rats to spread a plague or uses a disease spell.

War
A dark lord that attempts to bring war to 2 domains.

How I can bring these together in to a d&d campaign I'm not sure but I think it could lead to a very fun and interesting storyline.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Famine:

G'Henna style priest looking to punish the gluttons who defy Zhakata's hunger

Pestilence:

Druid looking to restore the balance of nature by eradicating the stains of humanity called cities. By spreading diseases through rats, bats, pigeons, sparrows you name it.

Death:

Oppourtunistic necromancer following in the footsteps of the two above to increase his following.

War:

Death knight/daywalking vampire/human noble or anything related to war really looking to settle a score with the political establishment of a domain or two for perceived slights.

All four coming together when coincidence have them all converge on a hapless village or a town.

All four seeing the benefit of mutual interest.

All four ready to betray and/or kill the others for selfish gain at the drop of a hat.

Pre-GC, you've got quite a good cluster of darklords along the Darkonese border representing those archetypes:

Drakov is War obviously, and Azalin, Death. Petrovna represents famine, and you could use Vladimir Ludzig, the Reniers, Marasmos (from CotN: D) etc as pestilence.
