While I am a much better cartographer than an illustrator, when I can't afford to hire a proper artist, I end up doing the work myself - I'm hit or miss with illustrations, but I'm not too bad. Here are two illustrations I just created today, using movie poster art for reference for my upcoming Way of the Samurai (PFRPG/Kaidan) supplement.
I used Xara Xtreme Pro 4 to create them, the same application I use to create my maps.
The first one is the Nitojutsu Sensei (two swords master Samurai archetype):
The second one is the Onmyoji (origami wizard archetype):
I'll need to make a few more.

Not as exciting as the illustrations, I intend to include Samurai House Crests (kammon) with the supplement. These are the first 12, though I intend to create 36 in all. A few will be assigned to specific houses in the adventure, however, most of these crests won't have houses officially attached, rather individual samurai PCs can choose which one is assigned to their clans.

Both the illustrations and the insignia are nice MT.

The next two illustrations, I just have needs for about 3 more after this.
The first one is for those wanting to play a gunslinger in Kaidan, the Teppou Bushi.
And this is the Kuge archetype for Samurai. The kuge is born into position, getting more training in diplomacy and leadership, than martial skill as his more common brothers.

This next piece is filler art, rather than an archetype illustration. For equal opportunity among the sexes, this is an illustration of Tomoe Gozan, a woman samurai warrior from Japanese history. In case any female gamers want to play a samurai, this is the example - and it's true!

I think I like the mounted samurai best

The result is a cross between a high res resource photo (6000 pixels wide) and getting practice at doing this days on end - after a week's worth of vector illustrating, I get better at doing this!alhoon wrote:I think I like the mounted samurai best

Next illustration is the only one that features a background, but that's because this guy sitting on a mountain fit the concept so well, I had to include it. This is Kaidan's alternate paladin class, the Yamabushi... enjoy!
