As you all should know, I'm from Wales, a country that once emcompassed all of Britain before the Saxon invasions and was sellted by the Celts some 4,500+ years ago. We sport our own flag, the Pentdragon (red dragon on white and green plain) and have our own langauge (Welsh, which was adapted by the Britonic settlers in Britanny into Breton). Not to many outside Britain seem to know about Wales, but the Japanese love the country and there is a steady flow of Japanese tourists and students at our universities.
Gaming in Mid-Wales (or at least Powys where I am) is not an easy thing, for a start there is a shortage of both players and DM's, I have had 2 good groups in the area but they all moved away in time, leaving me to my own insane devices, something not best done since I am quite insane
lol.
For you all, here is the Welsh National Anthem in both Welsh (Cymraeg) and English for you all to sing and enjoy
Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau
Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mâd,
Tros ryddid gollasant eu gwaed.
< Cytgan >
Gwlad, Gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad.
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau.
Hen Gymru fynyddig, paradwys y bardd,
Pob dyffryn, pob clogwyn i'm golwg sydd hardd;
Trwy deimlad gwladgarol, mor swynol yw si
Ei nentydd, afonydd i mi.
Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwald tan ei droed,
Mae hen iaith y Cymry mor fyw ac erioed,
Ni luddiwyd yr awen gan erchyll law brad,
Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad.
Land of my Fathers
The land of my fathers, the land of my choice,
The land in which poets and minstrels rejoice;
The land whose stern warriors were true to the core,
While bleeding for freedom of yore.
< Chorus >
Wales! Wales! fav'rite land of Wales!
While sea her wall, may naught befall
To mar the old language of Wales.
Old mountainous Cambria, the Eden of bards,
Each hill and each valley, excite my regards;
To the ears of her patriots how charming still seems
The music that flows in her streams.
My country tho' crushed by a hostile array,
The language of Cambria lives out to this day;
The muse has eluded the traitors' foul knives,
The harp of my country survives.
Oh yes! Wales is also famous for its song, poetry, beer drinking, coal mining and Eisterddod (a national festival to celebrate poetry, song and general performance art). The country is also the birthplace of Catherine Zeta Jones, Tom Jones, Bonnie Tyler, Terry Griffiths (snooker player), Max Boyse and Charlotte Church to name a few.

First off, Wiccy has got to learn to write less. I swear, man... You can ramble...
Just kidding.
I know that Borders and one of the local hobby shops stocks Ravenloft books, but the selections are poor, and I seem to be the only person buying the books. Only other people I know who's seen Ravenloft are in my gaming group. One thinks the setting isn't all that good (but I'm a nice guy and I forgive him for it), the other thinks Midnight is better, in that evil has already won. I'm not sure what to make of that.
Seeing this thread running gave me an idea, but I'm not much of one for organization. Why not try to arrange regional gatherings. Could be kinda like "mini-cons", but probably with a tad less spending of money on books, and a tad more indulgence in other things.

One of these days, I'm going to get it right. Until then, I guess I can just keep being a fool.

That'd be interesting. It'd only work for people who live close to each other though, of course. That means people in remote locations ie. Alaska, don't get included (unless, of course, if they take a plane, or a really long car drive). I remember bringing up something like this back at the Malodorous Goat (Gen Con Canada Thread).

Up in the Rockford are? I'm in a suburb to the east of Chicago. Rosemont area.Jason of the Fraternity wrote:Northwestern suburbs of the Windy City (Chicago, Illinois).
As for the number of Raevnloft players in this area, I haven't found too very many people. In all honesty, I've been so busy with other things in life that I haven't spent a great deal of time and energy looking for other players. Much like alhoon and MSD, however, the Ravenloft books in the area tend to come-and-go rather quickly...I guess we are a reclusive lot.

I think I might've been found out....I'm one of those sneaky Massachusetts Ravenlofts players that only moves about in the dead of night. It wasn't me that stole MSD's Gaz IV, though, because I'm still waiting for the store to get in some more...

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up. You're from MA? And we haven't got up to chill yet? Dude, what's the deal? You heard of Brockton, right? We just a lil south of Boston.
I mean, damn. I don't know about GenCon Canada or whateva, but I'm always on the lookout for MA RL players. Just to say what up, ya know?
Matthius, holla!
peace,
MSD

My wife and I live in the Northbrook/Wheeling area, although my hometown is not that far from Rockford.Grug the Caliban wrote:Up in the Rockford area?

As written to my location, I'm Greek, though I'm studying in Italy.
I know that there are players of RPG here, but I don't know if they use to play Ravenloft.
We have only one bookstore with Ravenloft books in the small town I live. But I think that in bigger cities will be easier to find them.

Stopped off there once for a break when we were heading to London many years ago. It was a very sleepy town indeed, even worse than where I come from (Newtown, in the heartlands of Wales about 20 miles from the Shropshire border).Brother_Martyn wrote:A sleepy little market town called Leighton Buzzard in the heart of England.
