Re: High OR/monster PCs?
I understand not wanting to torment a player too much but playing such a monstrous looking creature would produce mostly negative reactions. In more "civilized" domains I'd have people be nervous and whisper a lot, children would follow the character and stare, and shopkeepers may even ref...

Re: Mistfinder / Pathfinder: Replacing a Paladin's Detect Ev
Step 1. Tell him you fixed it and he can now detect evil. He now has the ability to detect strong emotions. Step 2. Watch the slaughter and roll his powers checks secretly. Step 3. When he fails enough checks, take his character away and tell him to grow up. But seriously, don't give him anything an...

Re: The Silver Blade
What a brilliantly disturbing bunch of heretics! Keeping the numbers small could even allow the sect to produce a Darklord eventually. What a calamity that would be for Ezra's faith. Bravo.

Re: How does Mordent reflect Godefroy?
Yeah, but if you mention it to anyone else in Amityville... Sorry if this further sidetracks us but: I live fifteen minutes (or so) from Amityville and this sentiment is generally correct. No one has ever reported further weird events but that house is no longer there, it was knocked down and rebui...

Zilfer and Matt: Yes, quite correct. I have to re-read a lot if I am going to run Ravenloft again.
Gonzoron: That's a very good point.

Re: How does Mordent reflect Godefroy?
I always thought that Mordent was an odd domain. Godefroy was rather weak before he accidentally became the Darklord of Mordent. I would think, since Mordent's inclusion in Ravenloft was originally due to Strahd and Azahlin, that Mordent might be different. For one thing, Mordent's Darklord doesn't ...

Re: How do I go about this situation?
If they "kill" Strahd just have the mists rise and grab them. It deposits them when and where you want them to be, no muss, no fuss. Plus the shock of being deposited in the future with Strahd being undead and well should be fun.

Re: Did I go over the top, or did the player?
This is going to sound awful but I don't allow my player's to play CN, NE, or CE in a standard game. My players and I usually discuss what type of game we are playing ahead of time and if it's heroic these alignments are not appropriate. Most players will use the above three alignments as an excuse ...

Re: Did I go over the top, or did the player?
Wow. I'd like to say that whether you were right or wrong in asking for the powers check (you were right) his reaction was utterly ridiculous. Throwing a temper tantrum like that isn't the response of a veteran player, it's the response of a brat. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing, even with g...

Re: 5E playtest and playtest rules discussion
But it was a 1st edition adventure... Yes it was. I was talking about the flavor text under "What is this adventure testing?" and everything under "Make this your adventure." It gives it the original flavor. I'm not sure how accurate it is to Keep on the Borderlands, I don't thi...

Re: 5E playtest and playtest rules discussion
I find hypotheticals like that silly. It's just as silly as all the talk of level 1 wizards being killed by house cats or level 1 strikers killing a level 28 minion and gaining three or four levels. That really was supposed to be a joke. I guess it didn't relay well. Sorry. Since my opening was com...

Re: 5E playtest and playtest rules discussion
I don't see anything about not making examples. You can't copy, excerpt, etc. yadayada, but it specifically says you can publicly discuss your thoughts. Having downloaded the materials but not yet read them, I can't make much sense of alhoon 's post yet, and I think that's as it should be. they wan...
