Zaen Worum[1] is the darklord of the Isle of Rage and a wrathful serial killer with a particular hatred for lawmen and holy men.

Zaen Worum was the son of an unhappy marriage between two nobles, Victor Worum and Amanda Worum. Victor was an abusive husband and father. One evening a particularly brutal beating afflicted a certain madness upon Amanda, causing her to suffer from delusions and hysteria. Despite the injury, she was able to collect enough money to flee into the country with her son and purchase some land. In a distant village, Amanda became a seamstress, and Zaen worked the land. Although Amanda was completely harmless, her odd behavior proceeded to get worse just as a series of strange (but perfectly natural) series of events took place. After plague struck the village and left Pastor Wildham's son dead, in grief the pastor blamed Amanda and Zaen by proxy

Under torture and branding, Zaen gave a false admission of witchcraft. As punishment, the townspeople bound Amanda and Zaen to stakes and then set ablaze. Though Amanda was burnt at the stake, Zaen escaped, managing to to break the spine of his pursuer on his knee despite his injuries.

Zaen thought to appeal to the higher authorities to address this transgression by writing anonymous letters to both those among the law and those among the church. This only resulted in Victor Worum sending a bishop and knight to laud the actions of Pastor Windham and the townspeople and to help catch the fugitive.

This transgression darkened Zaen's heart, and the young man went on to perform murder and torture, blasphemy and desecration. His specific decline has not been detailed, but he was eventually brought into Ravenloft and became darklord of the the Isle of Rage. Sin must have played a role in Zaen's corruption.

Like his crimes, Zaen's special abilities or even character class have not been revealed. Given his proclivity for rage and his immense strength, Zaen could have levels inbarbarian.
