Widow's Peak (Town)

Once a successful trade hub, Widow's Peak is a stagnant, bleak, and ultimately dying town in the domain of Craven Cove. The citizens of Widow's Peak suffer under a curse laid decades ago by the realm's former darklord: the Sea Witch. She cursed the townspeople because they, led by the clergy of the Morninglord, burned her at the stake. The land is cursed with barrenness, and the people are cursed never to have children until the sea.[1] With the youngest of its citizens now middle-aged and few visitors coming through the Mists, Widow's Peak can be described as as "closed ecosystem".[2]

The townspeople are insular and unfriendly, though their desperate greed will overcome their gruffness in the face of coin and wealth. On their own, the townspeople reuse old materials as much as they can in building and fixing objects and trade through barter. Most of the town's food is provided by fishing[3] at or near the the Pier of Craven Cove

Religion

The townspeople of Widow's Peak formerly venerated the Morninglord, but that changed after the Morninglord was seemingly unable to lift the Sea Witch's curse. Over the years, faith began to dwindle. Around a decade ago, some of the people turned to the dark faith of the Cult of the Old Gods, a cult that venerates primal and nebulous gods of wind and water. The cult leaders led an attack on the Immaculate Chapel, murdering the Morninglord's remaining priests and worshipers. The Cult of the Old God makes regular sacrifices, including human sacrifices, to the sea in order to stave off the Sea Witch's Curse, but thus far to no avail.[4]
