Valsarik Alanov is a minor character from the Heart of Midnight novel. He was a manservant whom first encountered Casimir and Thoris trespassing on his master's property on South Hill. Miraculously (to them, though this was because of Casimir's bestial nature), Casimir had just survived a suicide attempt jumping off the cliff of the hill. Valsarik took them in and nursed their wounds, letting them sleep for a time before taking them back to the Red Porch Poorhouse.[1]

Later, after Casimir achieved power in Harmonia, Valsarik and the family he served became pawns in Harkon Lukas' plan to alienate the people of Harmonia from his son Casimir. Salvarik encountered Harkon Lukas while walking the family's dogs. Unknown to Valsarik, Harkon used the opportunity to beguile one of the dogs. He order the dog to kidnof [[ap and kill Johannes, the four-year-old son of Valsarik's master. Harkon left an extortion note for Elyana, Johannes' mother, to appear in a location she (unknowingly) would act as bait to draw out Casimir's bestial nature. Casiir's wolf took over, and he assaulted her, but Valsarik and his dogs interrupted Casimir and chased him off before Elyana was killed. Harkon Lukas's scheme was successful; Casimir had revealed himself as a monster.[2]

At the end of Heart of Midnight, Thoris stood on the cliffs of South Hill, as Casimir had done earlier. Valsarik attempted to convince Thoris to stop. However, Thoris jumped over the side, ending his life.[3]
