The Headsman's Axe[1] was created by Morgoroth but was one of the magical items he left behind when he was chased from his home world by Lambert. The weapon combines some features of an axe with a magic staff.

Powers

The Axe functions as a +3 vorpal weapon but can be called to use is charges to surround its user with a black fiery aura (inflicting increased melee damage), temporarily grant immunity to normal fire and a bonus to saves on magical fire, or summon a pyre elemental.

Curse

A wielder who uses the Axe suffers a high risk of becoming evil through beheading an enemy. Using any of the Axe's special powers warrants a Powers Check. In addition, if the user abandons the axe, any creature using a slashing weapon against the Axe's former user decapitates the former wielder of the axe on a natural 20. The charges of the Axe are recovered by decapitating opponents.

Other Information

Falcon the Great is purported to be a former owner of the blade, having given it to a favored man-at-arms in his employ, only to cause the poor man's death later on.
