Ratik Ubel
This section contains canon info from officially published sources |
Originally a successful thief in Il Aluk, Ratik was murdered in his sleep by an unknown being. He arose as a revenant seeking vengeance, but only a glimpse of yellow cloth as a clue to his killer's identity.[1] Since his transformation, Ratik has also concluded that only a skilled rogue could have disarmed or navigated through the traps in his room without awakening him. With so little to go on, he often enlists the aid of others, including Alanik Ray and Ivan Dilisnya. Alanik's inconclusive results and Ivan's duplicity earned the revenant's wrath: Ratik slew several of Ivan's retainers and threatened the life of Dr. Arthur Sedgewick.
He may have made Teufeldorf the base for his operations.
Relationships
Over the years of his investigation, Ratik Ubel has gathered a dizzying list of diverse contacts, including the Church of Ezra, the Church of Hala, Malken, Tara Kolyana, the Vistani, and others. Ubel always asks one thing for his own services: information or investigation into his murders. Although quite quite perceptive and a potentially valuable ally, Ubel is one of the Restless Dead and thus is ultimately driven to find his killer before all else. He has a long memory that makes him pressure past allies for renewed assistance and hound those who cheat or fail him.[2]
Alanik Ray
Alanik Ray, the famous detective, has been hired by Ratik Ubel to ferret out information that would lead to the revenant's murderer. As part of this exchange, Ubel provided Ray with a narration on the Restless Dead that comprised most of the chapter in Van Richten's Guide to the Walking Dead (Item). However, Alanik Ray's failure to provide Ubel with satisfactory information to Ray caused the revenant to break off "friendly" relations with Alanik Ray and even threaten the life of Dr. Arthur Sedgewick.[3] Still, Ubel may have still have some contact with Alanik Ray.[4]
Ivan Dilisnya
Ratik Ubel holds a great hatred for Dilisnya, as the Borcan nobleman manipulated him in killing some adventurers in return for the promise of valuable information. When the tasks were complete, Dilisnya called several of his minions to murder Ubel. Being a revenant with high class levels, Ubel butchered the lot of them. Dilisnya escaped, but he holds great fear of Ubel to this day because the undead are immune to poison, one of Dilisnya's most relied upon weapons.[5]
Ratik Ubel's Shadow
As a shadowdancer, Ratik Ubel has animated his shadow as a undead shadow companion. It is considered a Dread Companion. Though hin Ubel's service, it often derides him because of his failure to find his killer.[6]
