Otto III[1] was the ruler of the Hunadora province, the outlander homeland of Nharov Gundar, some 560 years ago. Otto III was an oppressive tyrant whose rule engendered rebellion and resistance. Gundar joined the resistance movement at age 13 following the murder of his brother and father at the hands of Otto III's soldiers. Gundar spent years ascending to the upper tier of leadership in the resistance, until he gathered a small force to infiltrate Otto III's castle. However, Gundar did not know that Otto III was secretly a vampire, and he slaughtered all of Gundar's attack force. Gundar was transformed into a vampire and made into a slave, forced to betray the resistance movement.

Ultimately over the centuries, Otto and Gundar would see the decimation of all rebellion groups. Yet Otto's wicked rule was such that it sparked war with a neighboring country. Gundar was sent to the front lines, where he suffered enough losses to be accused of intentional sabotage, but Gundar was too far out of Otto's direct reach to allow for a direct confrontation. It is true that Gundar had been looking for the Hymn of Life all the time. Ultimately Otto III was unseated from his rule, and Gundar gained full free will once again, though he had lost much of his human emotions in his years of inhuman service.
