In 737 BC, as part of the events that brought about Second of Hyskosa's Hexads, adventurers discovered the murders, grave robberiess and other perverse activities of Meredoth and his Obedient Dead lebendtod, the Graben Family. In response, the adventurers laid siege to Graben Manor and Todstein. The manor was put to the torch, much of the Graben family killed, and even the prideful Meredoth was slain.[1] A great and horrible storm, titled simply the Big Storm of '37, soon followed in the wake of Meredoth's demise.[2]

Reactions

Although Colin Graben survived the attack and Meredoth's clone has animated[1], the entire debacle was very much a rude awakening to the formerly complacent necromancer and his minions. The necromancer and his undead have become more subtle in their grave robberies and murders, weaving several layers of deception to cover their tracks. Meredoth has extended his lebendtod spy network to all of the Grabenite communities to more proactively watch for danger.[3] The Graben lebendtod have also altered how they inter the dead and ship it to Meredoth.[4]

Fortunately for the Grabens, Colin Graben was able to minimize the political fallout. Ever the effective propagandist and slanderer, Colin was able to defame the adventurers responsible as bandits and madmen in order to preserve the family's reputation.[1]

Lingering Effects

The slaughter of 737 BC has resulted in numerous other strange effects, as given below

Effects on Meredoth

  • Meredoth gained several minor deformities[5], but he gained several special abilities
  • Mredoth gainedthe ability to sense the destruction of any minions currently operating within Nebligtode.[7]

=Effects on Collin Grabin

  • Colin Graben was given the Swarm-shifter template as he literally pulled himself back together[8]
  • The attacks on Colin left him horribly scarred. Now he must use the Veil of Life special ability to conceal his true appearance.[9]
  • Colin has something of free will and self-ambition now, but he is still burdened to follow the will of the hated Meredoth. However, he has an amount of wiggle room to bend the orders to his advantage.[10]

Other Effects

  • Meredoth's Obedient Dead all felt his death. Those in the domain when he reanimated fell back under his control, but those abroad never experienced it and quickly fell to seeking new masters. However, Meredoth may have discovered a plan to use this to his advantage.[11]
  • Despite Meredoth's best attempts to hold onto them, the secrets of how to create skeletal golems (not to be confused with bone golems) has fallen into the hands of other wizards.[12]
