Marshkovik Mikhail Zolnik

Mikhail is an NPC from the module Dark of the Moon. He is the second son of Gregor, the darklord of Vorostokov, and Sasha Zolnik. He resides within Vorostokov and is the marshkovik of Torgov. He is engaged to Anna Karelia. Unlike his brother, Alexei Zolnik, Mikhail has rebelled against his father's tyranny and covertly leads a resistance movement from Torgov.[1]

Biography

Mikhail was born the second son of Gregor and Sasha Zolnik sometime after Vorostokov entered the Demiplane of Dread. He is grandson to Antonina Zolnik and nephew to Elena Zolnik and Natalya Zolnik.[2]

Unlike his willful brother, young Mikhail was meek. When Alexei turned 18, Gregor decided to induct him into the Boyarsky and show him how to use a wolf pelt to change into wolf form.. Antonina manipulated Sasha into following them. After Sasha witnessed the transformation, she ran. The pack heard and instinctively gave chase, following her to a high cliff where she fell. Gregor smelled Antonina's odor upon Sasha, and he tracked his traitorous mother down with Alexei close behind. As Gregor tore out Antonina's throat, Alexei screamed in anguish and sorrow.[3]

At some point, Mikhail came to live at Torgov, the home of his mother's family. He became marshkovik, the leader of the village's warriors and became engaged to Anna Karelia[4]

In Dark of the Moon

In Dark of the Moon, Mikhail serves as a potential ally against his father and the Boyarsky. When first encountered, he is curious and friendly, wishing to know where the player characters come from and what their relation to Gregor is. In return, he can provide them with not only information about the land and its current state of affairs but also shelter and access to valuable resources and allies against Gregor.[5] However, at one point he may become captured and be forced by Gregor to fight his former allies.[6]

Other Notes

Having no wolf pelt, Mikhail is unaware he has inherited the curse that afflicts his brother and father. If provided with a pelt, Mikhail will transform.[7]
